D.Murray's days in Dallas appear to be numbered

Recommended Posts

If Murray really moves on, Dallas needs to get ADP. He's one of the few backs out there that could step right into a workhorse role and produce.

As great as that would be, I just don't see how Dallas could afford it. Like I said, we are about $12m under the cap - and still have linebacker, defensive front, corner, back up lineman needs - not counting draft picks to sign. Dallas could create more room by restructuring Romo's deal and signing Dez to a long term deal - but that's a lot of "ifs" still.

I agree AP could carry the mail in that role. And the Cowboys are super bowl contenders with a quality power back, defense notwithstanding. The big question is whether Peterson wants to play for $5 mill. I'm not sure he would.

Your draft picks will run $7-8 mill provided you don't trade your #1. I think there's going to be an abundance of quality tier 3 type vets who the team may be able to bring in on minimum contracts. Sort of like what they did last year. Lawon Landry of the Jets is a prime example. Too bad Romo doesn't take a page out of Peyton's book eh?

No kidding - many have been hoping he would... Guess not... Then again, maybe deep down Romo doesn't feel like it would be money well spent either. :dunno:

Why not just draft Gurley or Gordon?

That's an intriguing idea, save that Dallas picks 27 and some mocks have Gurley going as early as 16 to HOU. With Dallas not picking till 27 even Gordon might not be around (though that's unlikely). Speculation is that Gurley's torn ACL will preclude him from being the kind impact runner he used to be for at least another year.

Gordon is intriguing, but the boys have a lot of holes on defense that need draft attention. I'd expect them to take an OLB or edge rusher - maybe a DL and/or a CB before a running back.

If Murray bolts for PHI and the Jerrah can't get AP for peanuts I'd give a big up arrow to Ryan Williams and whatever FA they pick up off the pile.

It's fairly evident that both JJ and ADP want it to happen, so I'll remain hopeful they find a way.

They have the best run blocking line in the game and without the ground game, Dallas is an avg. team.

I just can't see them patching together a dominant running game with Dunbar, Randle and whatever free agent they may be able to get.

Looking like it's close to becoming a done deal: Murray to Philly for 5 years, $40m, $20m guaranteed (what's being said in Dallas).

If true, good for Murray - he's earned it. We are going to miss him no doubt, but I'm also glad Stephen and Jerry didn't pay him that kind of money.

That is less than I thought it would be, especially since teams have been overpaying for backs this offseason. The guaranteed must have been the deal sealer.

Not sure of the fantasy impact though. His value takes a bit obviously, but how much?

I can't believe Dallas couldn't match that guaranteed $

he would have taken less to stay with the boys

I actually think it seemed kind of high - least considering the market didn't appear to be as high as his camp anticipated. As evidence by Murray having to pick up the phone and initiate offers.

One thing is for sure - playing thru that broken hand and finishing the season made Murray a rich man. He doesn't get a sniff of this kind of deal if he had sat out with it.

Idk - makes sense to me. Had Dallas valued Murray as a $10m a year rb they could of franchised him and only paid him $9m. I think level heads prevailed here and didn't let the emotional side of it run the negotiations. This was strictly a business decision - and to all Murray simply wasn't a $10, 9 or even $8m a year running back.

I think Murray would have resigned if they would have guaranteed 16m

they don't want him and as I told you a long time ago, Jones has a boner for AP and will trade for him

After seeing what McCoy got, I don't think he would have.

- Philly .. 5 yrs, 42 mil, 21 guaranteed

and away we go -

Good for him.

You really need to treat this game as a business and nothing else.

good point, he might have if they offered him a three year deal

If you take a step back and evaluate the situation, both parties won out.

Murray got paid and Dallas can go get a RB (even rookie) to throw behind that offensive line. I've watched a few Cowboys game and i could had pushed a wheelchair past those holes.

If they also sign mathews that will be the dumbest misallocation of cap space. Kick mathews to the curb and let some other sucker team sign him.

Word here now is that Dallas was willing to go to $6m a year, but he wanted something in the range of $8/9m... I applaud Dallas for even going to $6m - that's a legitimate offer and no disrespect at all (imo).

it doesn't matter what the yearly $ amount is, all that matters is the guaranteed $

Apparently it did to Murray - that is what he was telling his family last night.

Not too sure about that. The Eagles offensive line is almost on a par with Dallas. And didn't Shady McCoy lead the league in rushing two years ago?

The clowns on ESPN radio in Dallas are speculating which rookie in the draft can step in and assume Murray's role. Duke Johnson? Please.

i'm really amazed that the deal went down. happy to see murray get paid like he deserves, but hate to see him go and especially hate to see him land in PHI. at least he will bring some class to that organization, until the culture infects him.

regarding the draft, have read some pretty solid analysis showing that DL is one of the worst position groups for immediate impact by a rookie. an elite guy can make waves (ware did solidly at 12), buy it's extremely rare that either a DT or edge rusher drafted in the bottom half of the 1st makes a real impact.

however, RB and CB are spots where even a lower-ranked rookie can make an immediate splash. and since these are position needs that DAL needs to address anyway...

I wonder if that nickname will carry over to Philly?

Watching the Murray presser on ESPN, laughing as he admits a couple teams offered him 'more money' than Philly...

Nice to have your place cemented as a laughing stock.

Whoever is the workhorse in Dallas will be a top 10 fantasy option with that Oline. Even Trent Richarson might become relevant in Dallas with that line

Your team gave 12mil to a guy who beats his mom and we need class. Lol

yes. if he's around long enough, murray might help your team might finally crawl up to the level where mom-beating would count as a surprise.

Bah, if they can't afford DeMarco, they sure as heck can't afford AP.
