Gallup releases "most admired" list

Recommended Posts

Best brace yo'self:

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Americans continue to name Hillary Clinton as the woman living anywhere in the world whom they admire most, and name Barack Obama as the man they admire most. Clinton has held the top women's spot in each of the last 13 years and 17 of the last 18, with that streak interrupted only by first lady Laura Bush in 2001 after the 9/11 terror attacks. Obama has been most admired man in each of the last seven years, beginning with 2008, the year he was elected president.

For nearly seven decades, Gallup has asked Americans, using an open-ended question, to name the man and woman living anywhere in the world whom they admire most. The current results are based on a Dec. 8-11 poll.

In total, Clinton has been most admired woman 19 times, easily the most of any woman in Gallup's history of asking the most admired question, six more times than Eleanor Roosevelt. Clinton won the distinction from 1993 to 1994 and 1997 to 2000 when she was first lady; from 2002 to 2008 when she was a U.S. senator; and from 2009 to 2012 when she was secretary of state. Although she has had no formal public role during the last two years, she retains a high enough profile to top the list. Clinton is the presumed front-runner for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, should she decide to run.

Double whammy! :overhead:

12 & 19 % "mentioned" respectively.

Hard to get worked up over those numbers, cool story though.

I checked out the fuller list of people (~30) under man and woman...people mentioned enough times that they got a spot, and it's just mainly embarrassing, partisanship aside. Women mention more celebrities, and you have a significant number of men mentioning Joel Osteen.

The most encouraging part came at the bottom with 'other' and 'none/no opinion' where you have the biggest percentage of respondents saying that.

eta: including sports figures, men mention a bit more celebrities than women.

I think the people we admire the most aren't famous so we're forced to pick from a select few.

Probably even among famous people many are now dead.

9% of male respondents mentioned a friend or relative.

31% gave an 'other.' That probably means there was a lot of disparate others, many others, but not enough shared mentions for the others to get a spot on the list. This was the heaviest showing with men though.

23% said 'none/no opinion.'

For women that's also 9%, 22% and 26% respectively.

See my sig. For those on a phone:

"But it's the Presidential election where the average citizens come out. The ones who hardly even know there are midterms, let alone research and/or vote for them. And you guys haven't fared so well recently." -- NewbieJr, explaining that Democrats are uninformed and uninterested.

It's a matter of perspective. I don't think what he said was stupid. :dunno:

the sad part is, Jerry had to add a bunch to the end to put his own twist on it.

You'd be best to just let that die, but you are incapable of that. So tell me, what twist did I add to it that was not an accurate representation of your point with that quote? :)

if you thought the quote spoke for itself, you wouldn't have felt the need to editorialize and put your conservative-hack spin on it. No biggie. No one is surprised. You are what you are. You simply didn't have confidence that people would read it the way you wanted them to so you felt the need to interpret it for them. Its your hack insecurity coming out. Lol

I can't see the sig but it's even more pathetic if Jerry felt the need to add his two cents for all to see :(

It was from an old thread where I was explaining to RP (never an easy task. lol) how Presidential elections bring out many, many more voters than the midterms do. And that more serious political people vote in the midterms, while a lot more average citizens (ie, not politically obsessed) vote in the Presidential elections. Of course, the rightie hacks took that to mean Obama won twice because of stupid 'uninformed' voters. Which I'm willing to agree with as long as they don't lose site of the fact that those very same 'stupid voters' elected Bush two times in the preceding elections. Of course, in an effort to make it fit his agenda, Jerry had to editorialize rather than just use my quote. To sway people into interpret it the way he'd like. lol Typical bit of sadness by the desperate right. They are truly the party of bitternesss these days. Sad and funny at the same time. :music_guitarred:

Most people can't name the Senators from their state, the Speaker of the House nor even 3 of the 10 amendments to the Bill of Rights... But they can tell you who last won Dancing with the Stars, American Idol and the Voice.

Angelina Jolie finished tied for 6th - tells you all you need to know about this list.

This is great, let's list all of her accomplishments here. I will start

The Russian reset.

Wow, only one accomplishment that the board can think of and that was a failure.

Everything Ducky posts is retarded........but he nailed it with Jerry's sig. The Dim base is incredibly dumb and uninformed, and many so much so they don't even know there are mid term elections. Heck, if we didn't talk about them here I submit Ducky wouldn't know they happen. He is that uninformed.
