Where is the Outrage? Big Ben using his phone on the sidelines last night

Here it is, from Thursday Night Football, an injured Ben Roethlisberger standing on the Steelers sideline with a headset on, texting away in the middle of the game in clear violation of league rules on national, prime-time television.
By now you’ve no doubt not only seen the video, you’ve heard the hue and cry throughout the land at this outrageous and blatant cheating. This, after all, is the exact same violation that got Browns general manager Ray Farmer suspended four games and fined $250,000. So naturally the nation is in an uproar over this. Roethlisberger is being accused of cheating, his reputation is in tatters, people from coast to coast are calling into question everything he’s ever accomplished in his career and slapping asterisks on both of his Super Bowl trophies. I don’t know if the NFL has launched the multi-million dollar investigation into the matter yet, but I’m sure it’s coming any second now.
More than anything, I’m hurt and upset by Roethlisberger’s actions, because I’ve been led to believe he is a man of integrity and plays for a team with an impeccable reputation. I mean, sure, he’s served four more games of suspensions in his career than Tom Brady due to the Ben Rapistberger scandal. But people from Pittsburgh like Tim Benz always remind us he was never convicted in a court of law so it doesn’t count.
No, the rule is that the Steelers are never guilty of cheating, they’re only victims of the Patriots’ cheating. When Pittsburgh’s offensive linemen commit a false start or the NFL can’t get the Steelers’ headsets to function, that’s the Pats breaking the rules. When Big Ben is on his phone in front of millions of viewers, he’s just playing “Words with Friends” or checking WeatherBug, so there’s nothing to see here.

I know the outrage will be immense.

Ray farmer was suspended for texting to the sideline. The people that received the texts on the sideline were not suspended.

Who said the people that received the texts were suspended? was Ben receiving or sending a text there?

do you think cell phones are allowed on NFL sidelines?

The LIES have already begun.

he CBS broadcast of the Ravens-Steelers game showed quarterback Ben Roethlisberger using what some thought was a smart phone. According to the Steelers, it wasn’t.
Team spokesman Burt Lauten tells PFT that Roehtlisberger was consulting his black, plastic wristband that contains the play calls for the game. Roethlisberger kept the wristband in his sweatshirt, removing the device throughout the game to examine it.
The explanation meshes with the images from the game. Besides, with the use of cellphones prohibited on NFL sidelines during games (even if they’re being used solely to block people on Twitter), common sense suggests that no one would be using one so blatantly and obviously during a game.
If any team understands this, it’s the Steelers. Four years ago, former Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu was fined $10,000 for using a cell phone during a game. The fine was overturned on appeal, based on the explanation that Polamalu (who had left the game in question with concussion-like symptoms) was simply calling his wife to tell her that he was fine.

I'd like to think we Pats fans would be the last ones to make accusations based on questionable evidence at this point, but, as usual, I'm wrong.

Steelers say it was an armband. It looks like it may have been.

i always use 2 thumbs and press down in a typing motion when I read my wrist bands

I am sure Ted Wells is already on his way to speak with Ben now.

In the article you posted it said this was the same violation as ray farmers. I was just pointing out that was not true. Ray was not on the sidelines and was communicating to the sidelines.

And steroids. What about steroids. Ben must be on them. Because Barry Bonds took them. Amirite?

Because he is a steeler. That's what they do.

Because he is a steeler.

Was he hiding in a bathroom? Bottom line is, he may have been breaking a rule. There are so many of them, that I'm sure not every player knows every one. But he was on the sideline of a nationally televised game. Do you really, in your heart of hearts, think he was knowingly breaking a rule? Now, rewind to January. Two ball boys walking into a bathroom to let air out of balls after the referee's inspection. See the difference, homer?

I have watched the video a few times, I don't see a "typing motion", I see Ben using his opposable thumbs to hold something, like most homo sapiens. That something could be a cellphone but equally could be an armband.

Honestly, if it was Tom Brady we all know it would be on the news, Goodell would be jumping at the chance to punish, and people would be saying "we ALL know that you don't hold a wrist band that way". That's not me being bias it's honestly just a fact.

I dont get it. Im sure players are on their phones all the time on the sideline, everyone in america is. Whats the rule or infraction we are supposed to be overscrutinizing here?

Yes if Brady is doing something, theres cause for concern. Its called precedence and reason for concern. Hes a known cheater, ben is just a known rapist. If we see Ben in the lockerrom chatting with the ball boy no one cares. If its Tom theres good reason to question. Sorry thats just how it is. Just like if the cops pull you over and you have a long arrest record they may look at you closer compared to the guy whos clean and never been in trouble.

Really didn't know this was even a rule, but I guess we cannot hold anyone accountable for breaking rules....especially if someone else also did it.....

Boston fans used to be known for their wit and humor. Now they are just kunty wash women. No fun anymore. Been to Fenway many times, the ball busting back and forth was great. That's over. 18-1

Really? I didn't know they were known for their wit. Humor, yea I did. The occasional sometimes extremely aggravating accent that you find with someone from there (not all but even people from boston know the type of person I'm referring to from there) is something I've known too. Maybe the wit was before my time lol

blah blah blah blah just silly shtick blah blah blah :o

You'd think whenever anyone going forward is accused of cheating, the Patriot's fanatics would duck their heads, hide their faces and say nary a peep BUT no one will ever forget about the Patriots cheating because THEY will bring it up at every opportunity.

You must know this .. you must .. really.

Maybe not. Maybe not.
