IGotWorms 4,063 Posted October 23, 2015 Good for about 14 PPG in PPR and 9 in standard or just about where Hurns is though week 6. I'm just saying expectations should be managed versus the runaway hype train. It should also be mentioned Edelman and Lewis are on pace to destroy reception numbers by Vereen and the former in 14'. His real upside IMO comes with having already played the BYE week. If you have a fringe bench player of equal (perceived) value with an upcoming BYE it's not a bad grab. I don't think anyone is expecting much more than a WR3 out of LaFell. Maybe low end WR2 but I think that's a tad too generous

R8RMick 242 Posted October 23, 2015 They're lacking a deep threat now, it's obvious watching them. But the Pats short passing game is so good it hasn't really mattered.
jgcrawfish 232 Posted October 23, 2015 They're lacking a deep threat now, it's obvious watching them. But the Pats short passing game is so good it hasn't really mattered. Gronk will be uncoverable (again) when defenses have to roll safety help onto a deep threat. This may shape up to be an interesting weekend vs the Jets. If Lafell is activated for the game, it may change the coverage completely for the Jets. Logic says that Revis will cover Edelman, even though playing the slot WR is not really his strength. If Lafell is healthy and can draw the top of the coverage over, Edelman and Gronk are going to be even harder to stop.
thewrathofkuhn 40 Posted October 23, 2015 I think low wr2 in a couple weeks Ahead, below or at the same level of guys like Jarvis Landry, Martavis Bryant and Mike Evans? PPR.
jgcrawfish 232 Posted October 23, 2015 Ahead, below or at the same level of guys like Jarvis Landry, Martavis Bryant and Mike Evans? PPR. I personally would put him below those guys. I view him as a WR3 with occasional WR2 outbursts.
thewrathofkuhn 40 Posted October 23, 2015 I personally would put him below those guys. I view him as a WR3 with occasional WR2 outbursts. Totally agree, which is why I think the hype train needs to hit the breaks. Given winning is about consistency I just can't see anyone willfully running him out there in 12 team+ for guys currently ranked in the top 30. Unless you're decimated at WR depth or have some bye week issues in week 10 or 11, he's a speculative add and (wasn't worth) spending huge FA $ or sacrificing a prime waiver spot. Besides, at this point in the season if you don't have a couple WR in the top 30 I'm doubtful of your position in the standings.
FebruarySun 1 Posted October 23, 2015 Nice catch, thanks for the post. I'm guessing that means he'll be activated on Sunday. Yes they opened up a roster spot but the true test comes tomorrow (Saturday) when the Pats fill that roster spot. The Pats have other needs so it's not a sure thing that LaFell will be active come Sunday but knowing Belichick, it sure looks like he is playing his cards close to the vest and is planning to activate LaFell. Even if LaFell suits up he might need a week or two to get back into game shape.

Hes not startable in a 12 team league unless a team is in absolute crisis? Come on. Any receiver that puts up wr3 numbers is startable in 12 team format. He put up good ppr numbers the second half last year.

He put up good ppr numbers the second half last year. A very fair and valid point. Although I've never been comfortable starting a guy who sees maybe 50 or 60% of the offensive snaps until I really understand his usage. As fantasy players we've most likely all been victims of Belichick on either side of the ball, and until I see the game flow and usage with my own eyes I'm not running him out there over another WR3. It's not like he's coming off of a suspension like Bryant or Gates. In the end it's pretty academic in my opinion. We're talking about a WR3 or absolute best case WR2, and I just don't think he's going to be the late season catalyst many are hoping for.

I understand not wanting to start him until we see his role in the offense. One of the reasons the Pats are so good is their ability to change the offense around. A player may be the focal point one minute and never heard from again the next. The two things that are positive, making Lafell a good investment, 1. He could have come back earier. He said by week 3 or 4. The Pats didnt want to risk any type of setback with him. That shows they view him as an important part of the offense for a run to the SB. 2. There really isnt a deep threat on the team. The Pats pass game is limited right now. Fortunately they are great at what they do, so no one has been able to stop it yet. If teams do start to figure out how to shut down the underneath routes, the team will be in trouble without a reliable deep threat. I dont think Lafell is a great receiver by any means, but he works well with Brady as his qb. Definitely worth a roster spot imo.
TennisMenace 156 Posted October 24, 2015 I have him as my number 4 or 5 WR as of now. I too need to see him out there before he makes my top 3. However, byes or injuries can certainly open up a spot for him, although I hope that doesn't happen.
Challenger 72 Posted October 24, 2015 http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/patriots/2015/10/patriots_notebook_brandon_lafell_says_hes_game_ready I want to say there is a high % chance that he will play this week, we will know by the end of the day if he gets activated. Challenger 72 Posted October 24, 2015 Here we go, lets throw in some prediction so we could all look like ass by Monday. 125 yards and 2 TD, why not!
Eddie Kennison 12 Posted October 24, 2015 I'm leaving him on my bench. He'll be eased into the program. Will see some snaps, but not a lot of targets. Very risky to start him
Filthy Fernadez 2,696 Posted October 24, 2015 Bye week blues so I'm rolling with him. Also, I threw him in a DFS lineup which allowed me to run with L. Bell & Freeman. Go big or go home.

Beyond Chaos 75 Posted October 24, 2015 Bye week blues so I'm rolling with him. I'm in the same boat as you for 1 of my leagues, gotta roll with him. I have to choose between him, Hankerson, or a couple of waiver wire leftovers in another. Really comes down to Hankerson or LaFell. May go with Hankerson just to diversify. I'll throw in a prediction 4 rec for 56yds, 0 TD.

weepaws 3,410 Posted October 26, 2015 Amendola as had two very good games . So now it begins who is the right pats rb and wr . only players on pats worth any value are Brady and Gronk .

Gipaldo 8 Posted October 26, 2015 People make too much out of one game, especially one where the player has been out since last season. Of course he is going to be rusty. Is 6 drops a lot even for that time missed, yes, but he has proven himself last year and he is on the best offense in the NFL. He will be a good WR3 with WR2 upside comes playoffs
IGotWorms 4,063 Posted October 26, 2015 The drops were focking horrible (even considering he was rusty) but I have to think he gets it together. The Pats want him out there and will give him every chance to shake it off

Heck no, Edelman has a ton of value. Even with the last couple games he is the #7 WR in my PPR league Lewis has value too if his bagina heals up. Was #7 in average RB points through the first five weeks before he got an owie
RedzoneMonster 110 Posted October 26, 2015 All I know is the dude was SOLID last year and got a ton of looks yesterday. Buy him now if you can while his value is “low”. Im not saying sell the house for him, but he could be a good WR for you if you are needy at the position.

jgcrawfish 232 Posted October 27, 2015 One more game of drops will cost him, but the dude just got targeted 8 times in his first game back after weeks off, and when he was on (from what i gathered) a 50% snap count. He's going to be hit and miss, but again, we're talking about the guy who finished as the 25th best WR last year WHO'S AVAILABLE ON WAIVER WIRE. I just lost Charles and Foster in back to back weeks in a league where they have 2 flex spots and i was thrilled to get LaFell (and Stefon Diggs) right now. shaabyi 0 Posted October 27, 2015 You guys are missing the bigger point. After so many drops, it will take time to earn Brady's trust back. If you don't catch his passes, if has other options to throw it too. Gronk > Lewis > Edelman > Amendola > LaFell He has catching up to do before he is started in your lineup. Frozenbeernuts 2,424 Posted October 27, 2015 No one wins fantasy championships with hit or miss players. Yes they do. Come on. I lost a championship game because the Bears 3rd or 4th string rb, Bell or whatever his last name was, was picked up and played against me. I knew he was going to get a million dump passes and it came true. Some random scrub started for just the championship game. I would have won had i had better waiver priority.
