Replacing headlight bulb: one at a time or both?

Recommended Posts

Just had to replace the driver side headlight bulb on my chick magnet 2004 Honda Odyssey minivan. Try not to get your panties too wet ladies (and posters that identify as ladies)

Of course the packaging on replacement bulbs "recommends" that you replace both at the same time so they are the same brightness yada yada yada.

To me this had always sounded like a money grab from The Man and would also leave yourself open to the possibility of both headlight bulbs failing at the same time, leaving you SOL.

What say the rest of you?  Replace bulbs as needed or do both when one burns out?

If one goes out buy two and just put in the one and keep the other on hand.

This always work for me and sometimes they only sale them in two packs.

Yep. That's what I do.  Whenever a headlight burns out I check if I have the other one on hand.

Yeah. Even keep it in your car if you are going to be driving somewhere late night. All you need is a screwdriver if the light goes out.

Screwdriver?  Maybe it's because I am a traitor to my country and own Hondas, but no tools are required.

To be fair having tiny arms and fingers like an Asian sex slave does seem to be the recommended requirements for changing headlights on a Honda.

Yeah maybe so. I need a screwdriver to take off my Jeep's headlamp cover.

One of the big factors in buying a vehicle is how easy it is to change the headlight bulbs.  Before I buy, I ask them to show how easy it is.

My first new car was an Acura Integra.  To replace the headlamps you had to undo plastic tab/screw thingies (which of course end up breaking because they are focking plastic) in the wheel well and then blindly reach in and fumble about.

Are American cars any better in this regard?

OMG this is too funny. I saw my chick magnet minivan in the reflection in the car ahead of me TONIGHT and noticed passenger side was out. I literally said to myself I’m glad the guy at Auto Zone talked me into buy two last month. I had the replacement in my glove compartment and fixed as soon as I got home.
Easy Peasy.

I used to have to do this every year or so in my vehicle.  I ended up buying the LED conversion lights (on Amazon) and now I never have to worry about it.

ETA I wasn’t going to start a thread about it !!!!

Fair enough.

The important question of course is whether TRUMP  or BIDEN  :mad:is to blame and if you were wearing a mask when replacing the bulb.

That came out wrong. It was supposed to be a knock on Fandaddy asking us to create threads and hilarity !

Don’t send the Bills Mafia to get me Don.

I had a BMW for a while, and you had to take the entire focking headlight out to change it.

One headlight went out 3 weeks ago.
I replaced it.

The other headlight went out this past weekend.

I might replace,both next time.

Added thought- I drive with my headlights on all the time. I work downtown amid a bunch of one way streets- I’m faced with oncoming traffic on one way streets almost like very day.

Focking tourists need to get the Fock out of my way!

The last three cars I had no choice but to leave the lights on all the time.

I wish the United States would do that and require headlights on at all times, not those stupid daytime running lamps...

I replace em at the same time, partly so they match in tone and brightness because I’m a little OCD that way, and also on the theory that the other one is probably going out soon as well and why fock around with the same problem twice?
