#1) I'm not a liberal. I think both Biden and Fauci are embarrassments. I agree the CDC has eroded their credibility and the sample is small, but we don't really have much else to go on.

Spreading the virus IS a yes or no question. You literally said yourself that you “wished everyone would get the vaccine so the pandemic would end” when in fact it’s NOT going to happen. There are degrees to how likely someone is to spread the virus according to the CDC, so this is not black & white. Aren't you going to school to be a nurse or something? That hardly qualifies you as an expert on infectious diseases. I'm not either, but it makes sense to me that someone that is vaccinated would be resistant and less likely to spread a virus.

I quit. I don’t have time or the patience to argue with someone on the internet when I literally have to brief patients getting the vaccine of what I just said. This is why America is doomed. Yes they spread the virus if they get it, but they’re still less likely to get it in the first place.  Studies have also shown they are infectious for less time.

Is your claim that the vaccinated are equally likely to get infected as the unvaccinated?  If so, please link to a “proper study” showing that.  And P-Town bear week isn’t a proper study (and doesn’t show that anyway since we don’t know the total % of people vaccinated that attended the events).

This is kinda a different conversation though.  Natural immunity is better if you already have it.  But the vaccine is better if you don’t.  That’s also likely a factor in the lower than expected vaccine efficacy since the unvaccinated are more likely to have already been infected.

It wasn’t masking that defeated the flu.  It was social distancing and people staying home.  This is evident in the increase in other respiratory illnesses this summer as more people started going out more often.

I think masks helped along with distancing and washing hands more often.  There was a huge decrease of kids in school getting sick last year.  My kids were in school for the entire school year last year and it was the first time neither of them got sick.

No I do think masks likely helped against the flu, I just think distancing and staying home helped more.   

Covid can be defeated, or at least held at bay, by social distancing.  Check out New Zealand.   But the US isn’t an island, and locking down over 1 case isn’t sustainable or worth the other costs.  Of course much of the social distancing that helped against the flu was also voluntary (such as many people choosing not to eat inside restaurants after they opened back up) or not all that disruptive (such as people working from home)

But like I said, that's not sustainable or worth the added costs.   It made sense to do it initially for covid since it was a novel virus so we didn't know much about it, in addition to try to not overwhelm hospitals, which worked.   But we can't continue to do that and we're not.

Besides, the flu kills about 30-50k per year.  Covid in its first year was 10x that.   Yes I know you need to draw the line somewhere, but pre-vaccine, covid was orders of magnitude worse than the flu.   With a vaccine, covid is basically the flu.
