Utilit99 4,099 Posted March 10, 2022 Interesting.... One of world's deadliest snipers leaves home in Canada to fight in Ukraine: 'I have to help' A former Canadian soldier known as one of the world’s deadliest snipers arrived to Ukraine to help the nation defend itself from Russia. "I want to help them. It's as simple as that," the Canadian man, only identified as Wali to protect his family’s safety, told CBC. "I have to help because there are people here being bombarded just because they want to be European and not Russian." He crossed into Ukraine on March 1 along with three other former Canadian soldiers after Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on foreigners to join the war against Russia’s invasion. "They were so happy to have us," Wali told the CBC of the people who greeted the former soldiers with hugs as they entered Ukraine. "It's like we were friends right away." Wali, 40, has a young family and works as a civilian computer programmer. He said the "hardest part" of making the decision to join the war was missing his son’s first birthday. "A week ago, I was still programming stuff," he said. "Now I’m grabbing anti-tank missiles in a warehouse to kill real people. … That’s my reality right now." Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said earlier this week that more than 20,000 people across dozens of countries have traveled to Ukraine to fight. https://www.foxnews.com/world/canadian-sniper-arrives-ukraine-fight-russians

Gepetto 1,374 Posted March 10, 2022 https://nypost.com/2022/03/10/husband-of-slain-ukrainian-family-says-wife-still-on-morgue-floor/ The harrowing images of their bodies strewn across the street with their suitcases and a dog carrier sparked outrage across the world. Perebeinis wrote on Facebook that he was finally able to return to Kyiv on Wednesday after four days “on my feet, thousands of kilometers of road.” Speaking of his treacherous journey, he told the New York Times that he had to fly into Russia from eastern Ukraine so he could cross the land border into Poland. He said he was questioned by Russian soldiers at the Russia-Poland border and feared he was about to be arrested – but was ultimately allowed to continue on. Perebeinis said he told them: “My whole family died in what you call a special operation and we call a war. You can do what you want with me. I have nothing left to lose.’’

To Ukraine's credit, they've put up better resistance than expected, certainly more than Putin expected. Probably due to covert support from U.S. and others, but the writing is on the wall... they're toast. I'll be surprised if Russia doesn't declare victory by May or June at the latest. Victory being a peace agreement to divvy up the country with Russia getting the goods. Wish I was wrong.

Agreed, it'll create an insurgency. How long that lasts and how successful it'll be... who knows. I've read some articles say it'll cost Russia plenty in terms of costs to soldier/police, but that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be a successful insurgency. I suspect it'll take another Soviet-like economic collapse before Ukraine is liberated again. Which could take several decades.
