Bluetooth earbuds (Airpods or equivalent)

Recommended Posts

For years I've used a wired pair of earbuds with a microphone for dialing into telecons on my phone.  Now that my current phone (Galaxy S21) dropped the stereo jack I have to use a USB-C to stereo jack adapter to use the wired earbuds which means I can't charge phone at same time if I'm running low on battery.

I've been leery of those airpod deals as I can imagine them falling out and being focked.  Also, do they have a microphone?

Curious to hear your experiences.

I have some Jabra elite active 65t ear buds that I love.  Very clear, with great sound.  Good fit (comes with 3 or 4 sizes of inserts). Sweat-proof. I believe I spent about $120 (regular about $180) on them a couple of years ago.

I use the Aftershoks brand. Possibly the Treks, I forget which model I have. Prices range from around $90-$180.

Here is on site, you can buy them on Amazon as well. Best Buy etc...

I really them because they don't insert into the ear. And they sound great. I use them for when I'm working out.

The "open ear" helps you hear things like cars coming if outdoor exercising, but what you are listening to is clear.

Thanks for responding, but I don't see any mention of a microphone, which is what I'll need for telecons.

yes... built in.  I use them for all of my team and zoom meetings.  I bought these about 4-5 years ago.  They have newer models, so this one is now around $100 on amazon. I love them

I use AirPods. Of course, I have an iPhone so they work well. One of the very few earbuds that don’t feel like they’re constantly about to fall out

Ah thanks.  I guess I missed it or else they didn't play up that fact.

Edit: our company issues Jabra headsets.  Seems to work pretty well when I'm using it thru my laptop. I'll take a closer look at these.

Just pulled trigger on a cheaper Jabra pair for $60. Funny that "blue" is $20 more than "grey".  Who the fock cares what color your earbuds are????

It's via the debbil Amazon and should arrive today so I can easily return if they don't fit my less than active lifestyle.

Yeah. I don't like them in the least. Once I was out exercising using those types and when I was still few miles from home I took one out and the rubber end that fits in the ear stayed in my ear. I couldn't get it out until I got home and had to use tweezers to pull it out.

Same thing happened once with a different pair when I was away for business. Had to stop at the store to buy some tweezers. So that was that for me. I don't like stuff in my ears.

After much analysis last Christmas I went with Jabra 85s; the 65s don't have active noise cancellation and that was a must for me.  I have had 65s in the past and like them tho, hence why I considered the newer ones this go around.

I also have AirPods which I got from work; I prefer the way they fit my ears vs. the Jabras.  The problem for me though is that much of the control for the AirPods is voice, and... well, I don't really have one.  :D

The Jabras though are completely controllable via push buttons:  pause, FF, REW, volume up/down, activate noise cancelling.  And you can program them for whatever functions you use the most.  Another bonus for audiophiles is that you can go through a hearing test and set up the audio for your particular ear function.  My hearing goes through phases based on residual crap from my surgeries so it makes for good sound.

Am I the only one thinking "rubber end" and "ear" are code words for "gerbil" and "anus"???

All kidding aside I'm also particular to earbuds, which is why I've stuck with and ordered backup versions of the AKG earbuds which came with my original Galaxy years ago.

Am I the only one to have problems keeping earbuds free from ear wax ? I have to clean them all the time.

I originally bought some Sony earbuds, but they made me look like I had frankenstein bolts sticking out of my head, so I got some apple air pods.  I like them a lot.  comfortable, they can take a good deal of movement without falling out, and the functionality is good.

I even dropped one of them in water and it still works.

Amazon sent me a pair of AirPods I didn’t order last year. I contested it with my credit card company and ended up not having to pay or return them (long story). They sat in my drawer until last week when my wired headphones died.

I really like them. Built in mic and they’re noise cancelling. I’ve had no problem with the pods felling out. I’d never pay $200 or whatever for them, but it’s a nice product.

These

So much better than having sh1t crammed in your ears for hours at end. You can also selective hearing and listen to what's going on around you.

This. I think I paid $25 on Amazon for a pair and I don’t know the brand.
