Since you are so keen on pointing out bad comparisons, most of what I have read is like this.   I don't think it's without risk, as I have read a little about sterility being a possibility, but you also can't try to lump it in with a gender reassignment surgery as far as permanent ramifications.   

So again, is this any more dangerous than the dozens of other meds that you or I could put our kids on before they turn 18?

My guess is it's like most things - a multitude of factors.   

When girls outpace boys by quite a bit, I think it's safe to say that some amount of what you are talking about is valid.    I also think that people are right when pointing out that as acceptance rises, people would be more willing to express these things.  I would guess some is because diagnoses can change over time as well.    I don't think any of us truly know what the ratio of all these things are.   

The surgery #s haven't climbed in the same way that the numbers for kids saying they are trans/non-binary, or the numbers have for hormones therapies.    I don't have the #s of how many who are maybe changing their names and pronouns are truly desiring to fully change gender.  Some of this still confuses the hell out of me.

Do you find it curious that your article doesnt mention the FDA warning placed on puberty blockers for brain swelling and bleeding?  I dont know anything about that website, but theyre wording does not appear to be objective at all based on other things Ive read.

And the doctor doesnt "decide" anything.  Deciding means they have choices.  The birth cert is filled out based on observations coupled with objective biological truths, not a doctor deciding.  They are simply a recorder of fact.
