Mike Honcho 5,265 Posted September 15, 2022 Since the My Pillow split open is starting to get derailed by a fascinating conversation about me, I thought I'd create a thread here where you can post all your innermost thoughts about me...since it seems to be a topic you guys spend a lot of time thinking about. jerryskids 6,784 Posted September 15, 2022 Nice enough guy, but misguided in his politics. Possibly also lonely, being one of maybe three liberals in western Michigan.

Reality 3,121 Posted September 15, 2022 Interesting thread, good idea actually. Your kind intrigues me... As a middle aged white male, possibly older, not really sure... What's it like supporting a party that hates you, blatantly, to your face? Does that weigh on you at all or is it just a cost of doing business type thing? Genuinely curious. If so that's sorta hipster; my nephew lives there and I've been, it seems like a cool little town. So I expect a little tinge of blue. The surrounding area though, yer focked, 100% MAGA. And he was the only one man enough to show his face in a thread making fun of him. So while HT and I would probably take a long time to find common ground on anything, at least he has a sense of humor.

After you posted your question, I looked up my toy car prices and they are higher than when I bought my it 10 years ago. I don't get that at all. I love the car, it's the first car that when I saw it said, I just want one---but to think the price would hold for a little 4-banger pontiac convertible all these later blows me away. And I'll give you an honest answer., 10 years later, living in Michigan and only able to use the car 6 months of the year, it is still the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel, I love driving the damn thing and would pay for another tomorrow if I had to get a new one. That’s what I like to hear. But I have to wait until the price comes down. I remember looking in 2019 and low mileage ones in great condition we’re going 15k and under. NY isn’t much different than Mich weather wise, so yeah, this is a toy.

Voltaire 5,314 Posted September 16, 2022 I like Mike. I appreciate how he makes the effort to put politics aside and treat people well and see them as other than blue or red automatons. There's more to people than their political affiliation. I do have one longstanding beef that I never said anything at the time about, so maybe I'll air it here. I think when he took BLS's bet offer for $200 and wanted to increase it to $2000, it was unreasonable bullsh*t, something beyond board a opinion disagreement. It was a Mitt Romney/Rick Perry moment. But that was for BLS to say "no" to, which he didn't. We've seen people walk away from bets or FF money before around here involving far less sums (QLazarus, Chronic Husker). That didn't happen here, BLS bit anyways and then props to him for coming through and paying up.

Did you ever get one? -Coincidentally, I bought mine from a guy in Syracuse. Was before Carvana and the car hadn't been made in 3 years so I was searching nationwide, cause obviously, like NY, Mich isn't a hot spot for convertibles. It was the 3rd one I was considering, the first two failed when I found a service that sent local mechanics to look at the car and both found obvious signs accidents that hadn't been reported. Never sent a mechanic to the third guy, talked to him on the phone, he was a recently finished 20 year marine who decided to go into business for himself and needed the cash to buy a work truck. He personally maintained it, got a good feeling about and bought it pretty much unseen. Flew out to Syracuse, he picked me up at the airport, I drove him home and handed him a check and brought it back to Michigan in 14 hours. I still absolutely love driving it. It's geared to give it enough pep that it jumps off the line some. It hugs the road, fall driving on country roads are the best, and being so low and with the top down, it feels pretty sporty. I had my first negative this year, the catalytic converter needed to be replaced and GM doesn't make that part anymore. I had to get an after market one and now the check engine light goes on every 4 days or so telling me there is an error with the exhaust system. I had to get a 30 dollar code reader, just so I clear the warning.

I was driving up to Rhode Island and there was a guy driving near me for a while in one. If I hadn’t have already done the walkway I might have changed my mind after I saw it. It’s still just a dream. Enjoy!
