What I've read of the "Mormon War" was when the US Army fought Mormons in Utah. But apparently there have been at least three such wars (Mizzou and Illinois as well) according to this link: Quote The Mormon War Sunday, March 1, 1857 The Mormon War, otherwise known as the Utah War or Mormon Rebellion, describes the violence surrounding an armed confrontation between Mormon settlers in Utah Territory and the U.S. Army, which lasts from March 1857 to July 1858. Tensions between followers of the Latter Day Saint movement (Mormons) and Protestant Americans had simmered for two decades, including intense conflicts in the 1838 Mormon War (otherwise known as the Missouri Mormon War, involving David Rice Atchison as a militia general and resulting in the death of the movement's founder, Joseph Smith Jr.) and the 1844-1846 Illinois Mormon War (resulting in the Mormon Exodus to Utah Territory under the leadership of Brigham Young). In the 1857-1858 Mormon War, President James Buchanan sends U.S. troops to Utah Territory in the so-called "Utah Expedition." The Mormons, fearing violent persecution, arm themselves and occasionally skirmish with U.S. soldiers. No casualties result from battles with the U.S. forces, but in total, approximately 150 people die violently in the conflict, most notably in the Mountain Meadows Massacre, which involves the Mormon slayings of between 100 and 140 migrants of the Baker-Fancher wagon train in southern Utah, between September 7-11, 1857. The various factors and motivations instigating the massacre remain unclear, but it is notable that roughly as many lives were lost in the Mormon War as in the "Bleeding Kansas" era. Also notable is the apparent involvement of future Missouri bushwhacker and famed raider of Lawrence, Kansas, William Clarke Quantrill. Quantrill goes to Utah in the spring of 1858 to resupply federal forces, and he supposedly befriends Southern-sympathizing guerillas and acquires a taste for banditry, and a year later he returns to Kansas and falls in with Missouri border ruffians. https://civilwaronthewesternborder.org/timeline/mormon-war#:~:text=The Mormon War%2C otherwise known,March 1857 to July 1858. Anyway, all the more reason to root for ASU. Jihad!!!

It's kind of sad how much it cost just to have those experiences with family and friends. It's why I've started investing in season tickets. What's nice is being able to offer up experience to friends and family for very reasonable prices, which will be even easier next year when my Chiefs prices are cut in about half. On that note, @jerryskids -you still have the opportunity to take advantage of two free tickets to the best basketball experience in the world on january 8 if you want them Appreciate it. I'm not sure watching my team get biotch-slapped by the #1 team in the country would qualify as "the best basketball experience in the world" for me, but if the season starts well for ASU, I'll consider it. cmh6476 1,025 Posted November 23, 2024 Quite a bit on the line in the final minutes of these big 12 games. Iowa State and Arizona state with an opportunity to potentially creep up the rankings. Hopefully they are letting Devin Neal use CEH's locker and just let him keep it from here on out. Hard to ever tell if a college player's skillset will translate to the NFL but man he looks like a player to me.

cmh6476 1,025 Posted November 24, 2024 I kind of feel sorry for the team that gets stuck drafting Sanders. He's definitely a talented athlete, I just don't see it translating to success as a qb in the NFL.

To Pat's comment, the excitement is because with a win over a down Arizona team in the Territorial Cup next week (never underestimate a rival), they are in the Big 12 championship game. I'm 99% sure. As CMH implied, it looks like ASU and Iowa State control their destinies. That being said, that coaching by Kenny Dillingham for ASU at the end of the game was about the most full retard coaching I've ever seen. They won despite, not because, of his idiocy in that sequence.

Voltaire 5,316 Posted November 30, 2024 Most satisfying Michigan win over Ohio State ever. My #1 all time favorite game in this rivalry. Well that salvaged this otherwise forgettable season. I really hope that the committee puts them above Boise State, whose best win was a loss to Oregon, to get the bye. One of ASU's two losses was without their QB, so they are basically a one-loss team. Boise State's only good wins were over UNLV twice, yippee. Alternatively, if Clemson beats SMU, ASU might stay ahead of them. But Clemson has more name recognition. If they get the bye, they would play the 5/12 winner in... the Fiesta Bowl here. I would definitely try to get tickets.
