posty 2,609 Posted July 17, 2023 I know that there are 65-70 games left in the regular season, and anything can happen during the last two-and-a-half months, but you have to love to see the Mets at 43-50 and 18.5 games out of division lead (and 8.5 in the wild card)... Mike Honcho 5,085 Posted July 31, 2023 Quote ย A Verlander trade would pose the same logistical challenges as the one for Scherzer. In order to receive worthwhile prospects back, the Mets would have to cover a significant portion of the salary remaining on Verlanderโs deal. Like Scherzer, he is set to make $43.3 million next season. Unlike Scherzer, Verlander has a conditional player option for $35 million in 2025 that vests if he throws 140 innings next season. That means he could have as much as $93 million left on his deal. The Mets covered more than 60 percent of the money remaining on Scherzerโs deal to land one consensus top-100 prospect in Luisangel Acuรฑa. ย The Mets are paying more for Scherzer next year than the Rangers. Some smooth negotiators on that club.
