Her politics were centrist and pro-business. She would have made an excellent President. I believe she lost, both in 2008 and 2016, because she is an unlikable person, pompous and arrogant, with too much disregard for the personal touch needed in today’s politics. The Real timschochet 6,811 Posted January 30, 2023 Hillary’s career follows a pattern of great Americans: Henry Clay, Daniel Webster, William Jennings Bryan, Douglas MacArthur, Adlai Stevenson, Barry Goldwater: all of these were highly competent patriots who achieved greatness but could never gain the love of the majority of the American people because they were simply too arrogant, too unlikable. All of them believed they deserved the Presidency, none were able to achieve it.

Pimpadeaux 2,406 Posted January 30, 2023 29 minutes ago, BuckSwope said: You just described my nightmare scenario. WTF are we doing that this is even a realistic possibility? Trump just wants to be president again, and he views any Republican who runs against him as an enemy and traitor, because he's arrogant and entitled like that. If he doesn't get the nomination, he'll run as an independent just to spite the party, because that's what he does. He's vindictive like that. H. Ross Perot did the same thing for different reasons. Even though he shared Republican values, he didn't want to see 16 years of Republican presidents, so he came in as an independent knowing he was going to fock Bush out of the presidency. There was a point at which Perot looked like he could win the damn thing, which he didn't want, so he ended his campaign, a self-inflicted wound just deep enough to kill his chances but plenty enough to split the Republican vote, if I remember all this correctly. The 2024 primaries are going to be a nasty, bloody mess for the Republicans, because Trump is going to just unleash attacks, often false ones, on his opponents. The acrimony will push centrists and some moderate Republicans to vote Democrat. If Trump gave a rat's ass about the Republican Party, he'd throw his support behind the nominee if it's not him. But he won't. His ego won't stand for it.

MTSkiBum 1,620 Posted January 31, 2023 If it is trump, desantis, and a moderate republican then trump and desantis will split the maga crowd possibly allowing a more moderate a chance to win. In theory this is great, however in practice there will probably not be a moderate candidate. It will probably be a retread like Cruz, etc. That is also in the final 3. zsasz 369 Posted January 31, 2023 Not really sure that Nimrata "Nikki' Randawa Haley would make in very far on the national Republican stage. She already has a couple of strikes against her with those voters. Trump winning kills DeSantis national political career. He needs to strike now. If wins the R nomination in 24...he'd probably win the General; even though the EC vote breaks horribly for the Right.
