H. Ross Perot did the same thing for different reasons. Even though he shared Republican values, he didn't want to see 16 years of Republican presidents, so he came in as an independent knowing he was going to fock Bush out of the presidency. 

There was a point at which Perot looked like he could win the damn thing, which he didn't want, so he ended his campaign, a self-inflicted wound just deep enough to kill his chances but plenty enough to split the Republican vote, if I remember all this correctly.

The 2024 primaries are going to be a nasty, bloody mess for the Republicans, because Trump is going to just unleash attacks, often false ones, on his opponents. The acrimony will push centrists and some moderate Republicans to vote Democrat.

If Trump gave a rat's ass about the Republican Party, he'd throw his support behind the nominee if it's not him. 

But he won't. His ego won't stand for it.

I agree with what you said, I think it's just a sad statement on our country and it's politics that we have a real shot of seeing these 3 clowns battling it out next year.

Well this should be interesting.  Looks like Trump vs Desantis could be a battle of criticizing the other for who supported the Covid vaccines more.  Which I imagine will ultimately turn off many centrists that know the vaccines saved many lives.

Trump will lose a general election if he wins the nomination. He's toxic to "independents and women". If Conservatives want to hand the WH to a Democrat, then by all means, stand by Trump. I personally prefer a proven conservative leader without the baggage that is Trump. DeSantis or Haley would be excellent choices.

He got 75 million votes last time. He barely lost a few states that would have flipped the election to him. Don’t count him out.

If Trump doesn't get the nomination, he's gonna blow the whole thing up and run as an Independent .. THAT will hand the election to the Dems, no matter who runs.

So, the Repubs are forced to run him and lose by the same score as last time OR go with someone else and get blown out of the water.

It doesn't matter how much you win or lose by - just that you won or lost.

I look forward to Trump blowing the whole thing up .. proving that he's not a Republican .. just that he has used the Repub party.  Not jmho.
