I didn’t realize they sang the black national anthem whatever that is. If they want their own national anthem they can form their own nation and move to it. This seems like a step backwards but I’m just a privileged white guy so what do I know other than how not to be an anti-racist.

Halftime show was pretty good. No leftist politics, hot though pregnant Rihanna grabbing her beaver and Nuno Bettencourt the second greatest guitar player of all time next to the GOAT EVH on guitar. Epic.

Lol...no politics. The whole theme was dripping with it.

I think the fact that this thread has negro in the title proves that it’s not a big deal if they have a song they call their “national anthem.”

The broadcast didn’t call it the black national anthem from what I understand btw

We see what we want to see. I didn’t see anything political. If you can point it out I’ll correct my stance.

I should have checked YouTube first. It appears they do in fact have their own anthem.

Maybe they can ashcan the Star Spangled Banner and after playing Lift Every Voice and Sing for blacks, YMCA for gays or something by Freddie Mercury, which would be sweet, and I Think I'm Turning Japanese for the asians they could finish with Freebird for the whites.

1 nation 1 anthem. All this does is further divide.

Yup. Was not shown where I was last night.  Never will be if they keep referring to it as a “ national anthem”.

Rather silly post.   So if you google "black national anthem" it comes up. Various people have called it the black anthem.   They play it before the game like an anthem.

But woh woh woh! *handsup* we didn't call it the black anthem!  What are you talking about???

Call it whatever you would like.  It divides.  Seemingly that is what people want now a days.

Ironically I did stay home for the first time in 25 years. I didn’t go out with the same group of guys this year. They all did their own thing. We did ours. Family and couple neighbors passed through. Made steak sandwiches during halftime

It's a pretty important distinction IMO.   Sporting events often play things like "God Bless the USA" prior to the anthem too, I look at it like that.   Were people saying the actual national anthem shouldn't be recognized last night?

Here are the lyrics.  It doesn't even say anything about being black.  It's funny that people are so triggered by this, especially considering many people probably wouldn't have even known it was sung at all and if so that it was considered the "black national anthem" if idiots weren't crying about it on twitter

1 Lift ev’ry voice and sing,
till earth and heaven ring,
ring with the harmonies of liberty.
Let our rejoicing rise
high as the list’ning skies,
let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us.
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us.
Facing the rising sun
of our new day begun,
let us march on till victory is won.

2 Stony the road we trod,
bitter the chast’ning rod,
felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
yet with a steady beat,
have not our weary feet
come to the place for which our people sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered.
We have come, treading our path thro’ the blood of the slaughtered,
out from the gloomy past,
till now we stand at last
where the bright gleam of our bright star is cast.

3 God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
thou who hast brought us thus far on the way,
thou who hast by thy might
led us into the light,
keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met thee;
lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget thee;
shadowed beneath thy hand,
may we forever stand,
true to our God, true to our native land.

I believe the song has been widely referenced as the black national anthem.  I believe it was played precisely for that reason. Ii have no real problem with it being played, if we want to play national anthems, though I think we ought to find one, all-inclusive song for our anthem.  I thinK the Star spangled banner is not a song truely representative of our country or our history.  No thought was given to it when it was adopted.  All that said I don't know how or why sporting events are where we make ostentacious displays of patriotism.

If in the future anyone asks again why there are not any or more black people posting in this forum, please direct them to this thread. TIA.

They have literally called it the black anthem and you can easily find that out just by googling it.

Not sure exactly what you are getting at.  The lyrics have nothing to do with anything I am posting.  Not sure what you are babbling about.

I posted the lyrics because you and others have said it “divides.”  I don’t really see division in those lyrics.  If the fact of simply having a song they call the “black national anthem” makes you think “it divides,” sorry but you’re easily triggered.

And yes, I still stand by my claim that the fact that the broadcast did not call it the black national anthem is important.  What number do you think is higher:

1) The number of people that googled “what song did they sing before the Super Bowl”?

or

2) The number of people that follow conservative talking heads on twitter that complained that it was sung

?

No.

Let me say this easy and slow for you.

You incorporate a "black anthem" and it divides.   It is that simple.  There is no triggering.  Lyrics don't matter.   When segregation was around it divided people.  You want a separate "black anthem" as it has been referred as many times.....it divides.  You seem to be for segregation and separating things by race.

Is this that hard to understand for you?

Oh I am definitely wasting my time.  Not sure he is trolling tho.  He honestly thinks this way.  If he can't see how segregating things by race, calling things black this or white that....doesn't naturally breed division.....then he is just a lost cause or isn't being genuine.

I must've missed it. I will listen now and see what all the fuss is about:

https://youtu.be/p0Qzu6r40_4

I liked it. It wasn't the best rendition of the song, but it surely didn't deserve all of the fuss many of you are giving it. The song is called Lift Every Voice and Sing. It's not called the Black Anthem. My goodness you all are miserable Karens.

There’s a bunch of them.  Tim Hack, Guttertard, PimpSantos, a few others.
