It's not March Madness if we aren't being force fed women's basketball

You must not watch much men's college basketball.  NBA fans say the same about men's college basketball that you're saying about the women.  I don't really care what anyone else thinks, the women's tournament this year was fun to watch.

Same, and notably the final four games. I do think that the officials really dimmed the end of that game last night though. I just wish they would have done a better job. Also, I could really do without all the silly posturing that has been going on around it.

The officiating was terrible and ruined the game.  They dictated how the entire game was played.  Reese went a little too far at the end of the game and really took the attention away from their team playing a great game.

Agree on all counts.

Absolutely agree...  Yeah that was uncalled for IMO, act like you have been there before...  I guess everyone isn't taught to not be a sore loser and be a gracious winner...

However, it would be funny next year if Iowa and LSU meet in the finals again and Iowa wins, Clark would do that to Reese...  Of course that would probably be considered racist and everything else under the sun...

I was watching golf.  But had heard of this Iowa girl and flipped over to see what she was about.  Sue Bird was talking to Charles about golf while the game was going on.  Hilarious.  Watched about 4 minutes and there must have been 5 fouls.  The girl I came to see drove to the basket and drilled the backboard.   Nothing but backboard.

I quickly got out of there.

I have a friend that says something similar any time he tries to watch and I saw others post it on Twitter.  LSU shot 54% and Iowa shot 50% in a 102 - 85 final score game.  You don't see many men's games doing that but you won't hear any complaints.

The ball is smaller.  It goes in at a higher rate.   But yeah high scoring.  A high scoring women's game is certainly better than a low scoring women's game.  But not my thing either way.

So?  Still have to put in in the basket...  And a huge majority of those shots went right through the middle of the basket...

But she felt disrespected because of what happened against South Carolina.

What's the line on this girl being in a video throwing stuff at a fast food restaurant some day?

Congrats to LSU...  Kim Mulkey is a damn great coach...  Two years ago LSU had nine wins, then Mulkey took over...  Wow...

LSU just put on a spectacular shooting display in this game and certainly deserved it...

However, Angel Reese is definitely not a gracious winner...

It would have been OK if she did a quick hand pass like Clark had done.  Of course she had to overdo it and carry it on and on.  Just the culture.

  • Thanks 1

Yeah they have to still put it in the basket.  And with a smaller ball it is easier to do so.

An observation as to why when good women's teams are "on" they can really rack up pts like crazy.

I dont know what you are looking for here.

Do you seriously not understand why having a smaller ball might result in higher shooting percentages?

I also didn't like how we just ran down the court and zoom shoot up a three, regardless of whether you're open or barely past half court.  I kind of like watching an actual basketball game.

The men's game does that all the time...  That is the nature of the game now, at all levels...

I know that they use a ball that is a little smaller, but they also aren't the physical specimen that the men are...  If it was so easy to put the women's ball in the basket, then everyone girl would be a star in basketball...

This is a ridiculous argument.  Why didn't Shaq shoot the three as well as Reggie Miller?  They both used the same sized ball.

I'm not railing them for using a smaller ball.  I am simply saying it goes into the basket at a higher rate because of the size of the ball.  Looking at the boxscore there were 5 caitlin clarks out there.

LSU had incredible shooting yesterday...  They normally aren't that good of a shooting team from beyond the arc only making an average of five three-pointers a game during the season and was around 34%...

Did I hear right that Iowa's base defense is a triangle and 2?

If that's true, that's hilarious.

Not helping your case.  Now, about that Shaq/Reggie Miller comparison.........

I don't think it's their base defense but they use it a lot.  They pretty much used it the entire game against SC and it worked great.

It absolutely does not happen in the men's game.  I can't remember the last time I saw a player in a men's game airball a wide open jumper or a guy try a spin move and just put the ball straight in the defenders chest.

Didn't I see some video going around a couple of weeks ago of some chick in the tournament air balling free throws?

Years ago in a colege gym I came across a discarded or misplaced womans ball. I started fooling around with it.  While I could barely palm a men's ball I had good control of the women's.  I could never dunk a men's ball.  I could dunk a tennis ball and a volleyball, but not a men's ball.  I could with the womens.  Also it did seem to rattle on down the basket more often when I was just a bit off.

My brother showed up and saw me messing with that ball.  I passed it to him and he instantly knew it had to be a women's ball, though from a distance it was not visually obvious.  In one's hands the difference was night and day.  We shot with it, both dunked it, and he dubbed it the "sweet pea".  I kept it for a time.  It was fun, like when you would find an 8 and 1/2 foot rim at some playgrounds.  It allowed things I could not do otherwise.

When college players display a bit of immaturity I try to remember college is a time and place to gain experience, to acquire maturity.  When they let their emotions get away from them in an emotion packed game, in or just after the heat of battle i remember there is a heat of battle.  We, as fans, ride the emotions of the game, so how much more so the players themselves.    as for trash talking and posturing, the reason I advise against it is it can consume the one engaging in it.  It is always ill-advised, like drunk texting a recent ex at 2 in the morning.  It may seem like a good idea inthe moment but it isn't/

In the moment taunting is usually acceptable.  When it happens during the game I don't mind it but what Reese did was ridiculous.  She even admitted that she was planning on doing it.  Her teammates should be pissed at her because she took all the attention away from them and made it all about her.

Okay, metal helmets.  A little different when he's trying to avoid the defender closing out after turning and rushing and what I witnessed which was a player have all the time she wanted, squared up, took her little luck step like they do in 5th grade.

Also, you're cherry picking an air ball out of all the shots taken in every game.  I turned on a women's game for 3 minutes and clocked one.

So you're taking every free throw from every game that was ever shot vs me watching maybe a total of 10 shots.

When you're online and can run to Google to find something to say when you post all the time, how do you have conversations in the real world?  Do you have to stop every conversation and Google what you're going to say?

That was about as wide open as you can be in the NBA.  And it was only from a month ago.

Obviously the men are better.  But you’re acting like the womens NCAA champions would get beat by a middle school JV squad.

If you think that's as open as you can be in the NBA you obviously don't watch luka play defense.

They'd get beat by probably the top 35% of highschool teams.  No doubt in my mind.  They could probably win a D league men's rec league.  Probably be competitive in a C league, and get destroyed in a B league.

I know you've never played sports, so Google what those are and post your thoughts!

Ignorant.  That's almost as bad as people saying a college team would be an NFL team.

I played a college sport.  I don’t play in adult rec leagues, lol

LSU-Iowa NCAA women's championship game draws record TV audience

https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/36060079/lsu-iowa-ncaa-women-title-game-draws-record-tv-audience

BRISTOL, Conn. -- LSU's 102-85 victory over Iowa in Sunday's national championship game was the most-viewed NCAA women's basketball game on record, with 9.9 million viewers on ABC and ESPN2, according to fast national numbers by Nielsen.

The total audience is a 103% jump over last year, when South Carolina defeated UConn and averaged 4.85 million on ESPN and ESPN2. The audience on Sunday at one point peaked at 12.6 million.

LSU's first national title in women's basketball was the first on network television since UConn's win over Tennessee in 1995. That game averaged 7.4 million on CBS.

ESPN took over the rights to the entire tournament the following year. The previous network high for a women's national championship game was in 2002, when UConn beat Oklahoma.

The record ratings come as the NCAA is deciding whether to separate the women's tournament or keep it as part of the championships TV package that includes at least 24 sports. That contract expires next year, with the NCAA expected to decide the next steps in negotiations by the fall.
