French Open - Men and Women purse for winning is the exact same

Men play best of 5 sets. Women play best of 3.

Men are far more popular to watch.

Can someone explain how the purse is the same?

Of the Grand Slam tournaments, the French Open is the second to last to have instituted equal prize money for men and women, doing so in 2007, 34 years after the US Open decided to change in 1973. That same year, Wimbledon offered equal prize money.

Good to see that the women are now getting the same prize money...  Won't have to hear complaining from them, at least this tournament...

Now just expand the final (at a minimum) to five sets for full equality...

They should combine all monetary prizes into one bigger payout, i.e. per tournament. Then REMOVE the distinction between mens and womens divisions. Let them all play together in one gigantic pool. See what happens. 

( We know what would happen. No women would ever win a major tennis tournament again) 

Play to the most arduous standard. In this case, play to the men's rules. 5 sets instead of 3. Etc, etc. 

If people want "the same", then give them all the same exact punitive standard.

I am not sure if this happened, if the #1 woman would beat the #64 man

If they make the she/her bracket best of five, then I don’t have an issue. Since it’s not, their payout should be 60% of men’s. Otherwise, it’s equal pay for unequal work.

With more $$$$ it might draw more trans men to compete as women in future events.
