Oberlin College - Mao would be so proud

Recommended Posts

Obelrin college is a cesspool.  I'm surprised the United States Government doesn't intervene more on these college campuses operating as small Communist states.

We need a revolution in this country to rid it of these country-wrecking liberals.  Export them to North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela or whatever their favorite commie country is.

Why should anyone care about what Oberlin College does?

This stance by Oberlin is literally a microcosm of Bidens EO from his second day in office.  This isn’t just Oberlins agenda, it’s a feature of the Dems platform.

I’ll take that as you agree but just don’t care.

I don't agree but what this small liberal arts college does is irrelevant to Biden and the Democratic left in this county.

You’ve got to watch the video.  It’s not just the Oberlin Administrators.  The team turned on the Coach as well.  The way it all went down… like a page out of the Cultural Revolution.

You think it’s ok that men should be allowed to shower with women at school. High school too.

Make no mistake: He doesn't care because they're doing exactly what he supports.  It's easy to go "meh" when they're doing everything you want them to do.

Do you support Lia Thomas competing against females?

It’s a fine school with one of the best histories in this country (I believe it was the very first university to integrate students.)

That just had to pay a 40 million dollar judgment to a local,100+ year old family owned business that the college destroyed.  Yeah, great people you got there Timmy!

You think men can menstruate, so what you have to say on these matters has to have that taken into account.

This is the same school that tried to destroy a small bakery that had been a family for over 100 years because they dared try to prevent a shoplifting. Since Ohio isn't California, and leftoid criminals in Ohio can't just take things they want from stores without paying, and since radical leftoid administrators at Oberlin don't know this, the school wound up losing a huge lawsuit. It was pretty funny and well deserved.

I see they are still turds. They don't belong in Ohio and ought to relocate. I hear North Korea is nice.

Oberlin is the Liberty University of the left. Well except they’re selective and do actually graduate students. But anyway, they’re both crazy

I dated a girl who went there years ago. The school was like $50k/y at the time for a basic liberal arts education. Most private colleges and universities are such a scam.

I had never heard about that story and after you posted this I looked it up and read about it.

It looks to me as if the school behaved poorly, and that justice was served- the bakery was awarded 36 million. Unlike you I don’t believe such an incident defines the college. But it certainly wasn’t a good look.

But repressing someone’s first amendment rights is a good look.

As far as the main topic in this thread: I have to admit that as a liberal, the intolerance on college campuses of conservative ideas really bothers me. @Patented Phil is a guy whom I generally disagree with on most political issues, but when he compares this treatment to Maoist China he’s probably not far off (with the caveat, of course, that China’s “cancel culture” included imprisonment, torture, and murder.)

Conservatives are justified to point out these occurrences and condemn them. I do too and I don’t know how to solve the issue. That being said I still have admiration for this college.

Not a good look?  They destroyed a beloved 150 year old pillar of the community business.

And were punished for it, justly, in a court of law. I don’t think either this action, or the intolerance of conservative ideas which the OP brought up, take away from the various good things this famous college does, or its historical legacy.

They were punished after YEARS of litigation and after two of the principal plaintiffs DIED.  Those two saw no justice.  GFY.

The incident took place in 2016. In terms of the legal process it didn’t take that long, from what I’m reading. I’m not sure what result you wanted that they didn’t get.

A monetary judgment does not restore the reputation that was destroyed by Oberlin.

That’s true- but it’s always true when such lawsuits happen. Dominion voting machines will never be the same no matter how many billions Fox pays them. The damage is done. We do the best we can with our legal system to find justice. 36 million for a small bakery is a lot of money.

An apology would be nice.  Some contrition or indication that they learned something from the incident.  IOW, everything they HAVEN'T done.

Have they refused to apologize? That would surprise me. If that’s true then I’m forced to agree with you.

Tim: Don’t judge todays Democratic Party off of the the actions of the prior Democratic Party.

Tim: Oberlin has a distinguished history going back to the 1800’s.

You need to do some more research in to this incident.  You can start by reading the thread about it in the PSF.  I.posted numerous links about this case there.  BB found it fascinating IIRC.  But no, they have not expressed any remorse.  They have doubled down on their stance at every turn.

Small, expensive, liberal arts schools like Oberlin exist for wealthy parents to send their kids so that those kids (1) are isolated from riff raff, and (2) can find their spouse to keep the blood lines pure blue.

ETA: and (3) so those parents can virtue signal to their other wealthy parent friends that they sent their kids to an appropriate school.

I will read more. As I mentioned I’ve never heard of this story before. If you’re right then that’s awful, and would probably end my admiration for the college.
