The pressure for that came at the state level. Many states didn't require masking. States like California threatened to fine businesses or revoke licenses if they allowed people into their businesses without masks.

Agree completely.  And yet we see hate toward Trump and others, why? Most people cannot really explain it, they just dont like them.

"I" dont like Faucci AND he is bad at his job....if her were good at his job, my personal assessment of him would be entirely irrelevant, because outcomes matter more than likeability.

I don’t hate Trump (I don’t like him)  but I don’t think he was competent. 

I think Joe Biden is a lousy person but a pretty good President, far better than Trump IMO. 

I have no idea what Fauci is like personally (but you seem like an honest guy so I’ll take your word that he’s a schmuck) but I strongly disagree with you about his performance. I think he was excellent.

I think a lot of people feel the way you do. And zi don’t think it will be necessary. 

But- if the aged and sick start dying again die to the spread of Covid, then personally I think we as a society should do whatever is necessary to save the most lives. 

And the larger concern is this: Covid will not be the last pandemic. Scientists warn that increasing climate change will bring about many new diseases. When these occur we have got to listen to public health experts even when they insist on measures we find restrictive or inconvenient.

Your second point is a misconception as well. In the beginning Fauci and the other public health experts didn’t think the virus would spread as fast as it did; also they were concerned about the scarcity of N-95 masks. That’s why they said that masks were ineffective. Later on when the data changed they changed as well. Which is what good scientists do.

as far as masks, he knew 100% that only N-95 masks had the slightest chance of reducing risk if worn for an hour or less perfectly on your face.  but still wore cloth masks and told people they help.  The 6 ft rule was a compromise, they knew that saliva could travel 10ft but knew that people wouldn't go for that.

nothing they did was based on science, and he lied time and again about the vaccine

The aged and sick die all the time from communicable diseases.  Why not just wear masks all the time if we could save lives? Where’s the line drawn where it’s too many and we need to mask for perceived safety?
