All the border security in the world isn’t going to solve this problem though. What we need is to reform our immigration system. This is what I've been saying all along, to get to the root of the issue instead of dealing with its symptoms. And why is Mexico just letting this never-ending wave of people just tromp through the country from south to north?

As far as the wall, I grew more supportive of it after talking to a Texas state trooper who gets called to the border frequently for security. He said having a wall does reduce the volume of illegal immigration.

He also noted that he and other troopers being sent there mostly is the governor's publicity stunt. While the governor looks like he's being all tough on the border, pulling troopers off their assigned turf to handle border security creates problems back home. 

Motorists know there are no troopers around, so they speed and become more dangerous on highways, resulting in more highway accidents and fatalities.

Perhaps there could be some buffer zone where U.S. companies build factories and stuff, employ a lot of these folks and even set up communities for them. 

There is a coffee company based in my city. It has developed coffee McDonald's, Panera Bread and Duncan Doughnuts and provides a huge percentage of the roasting operations. The company owns a coffee-bean plantation in Central America, and the workers and their families live there and have access to medical care and education. It's a self-contained community.

With unemployment so low in this country and so many businesses struggling to hire, why not solve two problems? The companies get their workers, and the workers and their families get a life they never could have had in countries they desperately risked their lives to flee.

Everyone that isn't a complete moron knows walls are very effective as a deterrent.  Walls plus Remain in Mexico were the most effective deterrents that you can prove by just looking at the CBP data.  For fok sake Obama built the vast majority of the walls we currently have (yes the legislation was approved under Bush).  The ONLY reason this became a bipartisan issue was because But Trump!  Everyone with a brain knows walls work.

I don’t know if Tim is for truly open borders, I kinda suspect not but that’s for him to say.

But as for sane, non-Trumpers, I think our point is that most people — even Trump and other republicans— don’t actually want to end illegal immigration and it’s mostly just a farce for election purposes. So you got a keep a handle on it, yes, but this idea that anyone would actually make it all go away is pretty absurd

I am with you on the last part.  I don't think either party wants to end it - too much profit to be had.   If they wanted to end it, they could crack down hard on hiring and do something about the broken asylum system.

I am not at all a fan of Biden’s populism on this and many other issues. Given the choice between Biden and Trump I will gladly choose Biden. But I would prefer someone a little smarter. Actually I would be a far better President than either of them.

This whole "open border" crap is just a catastrophizing MAGAturd buzz phrase. The border is not focking open, and roughly half of those here illegally arrived here legally.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection budget has steadily increased. State resources are being pulled to address the problem. Miles and miles of wall have been built. But it's impossible to seal off the border, considering how many miles there are of it and the sheer volume of humanity trying to get in here.

Of course, if taxes were raised to address our border issues, MAGAturds would be b!tching about higher taxes.

By the way I never wrote that the media is unbiased. It is biased towards reporting the news that will generate the most eyeballs. 

As far as liberal vs conservative goes, both CNN and MSNBC offer liberal perspectives on their opinion shows, and their opinion shows dominate both networks, so it would be fair to describe both CNN and MSNBC as “liberal” and Fox as “conservative”. But I still believe that the actual news reporting- not opinion shows, not website editorials or analysis, but news reporting- is accurate and offered without bias.
