Greatest sports crowd rituals

Recommended Posts

Aside from the wonderful violent philthy eagles regular activities, what you got?

The Chicago Blackhawks fans started this is 1985. To me this is the single most goosebump producing tradition that fans have started in any sport. Focking love being a part of it in a raging Blackhawk stadium.

1985

The tradition for fans to applaud and cheer loudly from start to finish during the singing of the national anthem originated before Game 3 of the 1985 conference finals at Chicago Stadium.

Jump Around at Camp Randall student section.  Happened after I graduated.  I've been back to games since then, but I'm not a student anymore nobody in the other sections jumps...To be honest though, I'm not sure I could jump for the entire song now.

I've heard players comment on how this just gave them chills during the anthem. Focking awesome:

Here's a good one. Oh...it's philthy.

Philadelphia Eagles fans celebrate the team's victory in the NFL Super Bowl 52 between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots, Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, in downtown Philly.

Philly riots

Thousands of Philadelphia Eagles celebrated the NFL team's first ever Super Bowl victory Sunday night, and some of the fun turned violent.

Videos and photos show looting, cars overturned, street lights toppled, fires set, fights, and extensive property damage. More than a dozen people fell when they climbed on top of the Ritz-Carlton hotel awning and it collapsed.

The Philly police scanner even included reports of police horses stolen, an off-duty cop arrested, bottles thrown, assaults, and people setting off fireworks. There was even an unconfirmed rumor that an ostrich had been stolen from the local zoo.

It's unclear how much damage occurred, and numbers aren't immediately available for arrests and injuries. Most of the incidents occurred along Broad Street in Center City, where fans young and old chanted "Fly Eagles Fly" in an area packed with green and white jerseys for nearly half a mile.

Kind of agree….  Maybe right after 9/11 to show solidarity for the United States, but this isn’t that…

I was waiting for this bullshlt reply. The national anthem is a celebration, not a focking funeral procession. Chicago Blackhawk fans know it and love it well. So screw you.

Agreed as well.  Thanks for the thread - I’d never seen that before.  Cool as hell. 👍

When the Blackhawks were at the top of their game and winning championships, being in that building was surreal during the anthem. Hell, the whole games were surreal. It was the greatest mass spectator event experience I ever had.

The Wave at Iowa football games is hard to beat.

Is that when they wave the other team into the end zone?

I always thought that we invented the wave in Detroit during the Tigers 1984 run, but reading about it, it started on the west coast. They credit the former Colorado Rockies hockey team, the Oakland A's and the Washington Huskies football program. Apparently Bo Schembechler had brought it to UM football home games from the west coast after playing the Huskies the fall before. With a lot of crossover baseball fans, the 84 Tigers fans do get a mention in the Wikipedia entry because we  made it popular due to all those televised games during that magical summer that ended winning the World Series. So we were very early, but not the first.

Cool thanks for the history lesson on it and like I said It was cool to it was run into the ground by all fans in all stadiums. Never dig the Tomhawk chop though that the Chiefs and Braves do. Think the chiefs gave up on it though but Braves fans still do it.

When the national anthem is played, it is important to follow proper etiquette. Here are some guidelines to follow12345:

  • Stand up as soon as you hear the first notes of the anthem.
  • Remove your hat.
  • Face the flag.
  • Place your right hand over your heart.
  • Sing along if appropriate.
  • Don’t talk, eat, or distract from the performance of the National Anthem.
  • Civilians should stand to attention with right hand over heart, while military personnel in uniform and veterans should salute throughout

Florida State did it way before them...

They do...  The only reason the Braves started it when Deion played for them...
