Mass Shootings Maine

You guys seem to think that an AR is the be all end all of killing machines. They aren't. NATO adopted the 5.56 round, which is essentially the .223 round most AR's are chambered in, precisely because it is less lethal than the 7.62 round that guns like the AK fire. A person using a shotgun with a rifled barrel, slugs, and a drum magazine can do a great deal more damage than somebody else with an AR.

It isn't the gun. It's the person using the gun that is the problem.

My daughter's bf borrowed the following from his uncle when we went shooting.  Now *THIS* would really do some damage.

It was a blast (no pun intended) to shoot.

You aren't a vegetarian are you?

Hell no.  Carnivore actually.  I guess I should explain further… I’m personally against guns but I’m 100% pro 2A, especially after what I’ve seen from the Left the last 20 years.  There absolutely needs to be a check and balance against their tyrannical tendencies.  And a key part of that is having a well armed citizenry, and yes - that means assault rifles.

Biden is actually correct when he calls assault rifles “weapons of war”.  That’s where we’re at in 2023 America.  We’re in a Cold Civil War that is most likely going to turn Hot at some point.  I was hoping the Left would return to traditional Liberalism after Trump got knocked off, but they didn’t.  They got worse.

You want laws that are effective?

Try this......MANDATORY 5 YEAR SENTANCE FOR FELON FOUND WITH FIREARM.....NO PAROLE.

MANDATORY 10 YEAR SENTANCE FOR COMMITTING A CRIME WITH A FIREARM.....NO PAROLE....20 YEARS 2ND OFFENSE.

MANDATORY LIFE SENTANCE FOR COMMITTING A CRIME WITH FIREARM RESULTING IN DEATH.....NO PAROLE.

MANDATORY DEATH SENTANCE FOR 1ST DEGREE MURDER WITH FIREARM.

But no......that's cruel & unusual punishment.

Law and Order?  You kidding?  The Left has no respect for law and order.  That much is crystal clear.  See “Summer of Love.”

Well said, Phil.  The left needs to disarm it's citizens before they turn on them.  And they will, make no mistake. We've seen it before: Stalin, Mao, Castro, Pol Pot and a whole host of other lefty "leaders" have done it, why would they be any different?

Yup.  The only time they want anything resembling law and order, it is always a disguise for something else - obtaining or solidifying power.  Why do you think they hate assault weapons so much?  Because they hate crime and murder?  If that were the case they’d get tough on the bad guys.

The Left lets violent felons out of jail, openly assists in breaking immigration laws, and allows brazen theft. The only people they put in jail are people who question elections and people who pray near abortion centers.

A) Obviously bad guys ignore laws they don’t like. The purpose of laws is to make that more difficult for them.
B.) I don’t blame anyone. And I’m not trying to punish anyone.

So we agree that laws against the illegal use of firearms don't dissuade criminals from committing crimes. And you've already admitted that it's a people problem rather than a gun problem.

So why do you continue to suggest that more gun control is the answer?

A) That won't stop bad guys from doing bad sh!t

Actually as posted earlier most of the deadliest mass shootings were carried out using legally obtained guns.    So at minimum it would have been much harder for some of them to obtain those weapons.

Nope. I’m not in favor of mandatory sentencing, Each situation is different. I believe in giving prosecutors and judges as wide an ability to determine punishment as possible.

Because I believe it will make it more difficult for criminals to obtain guns. Not impossible certainly, but more difficult. And that should be the goal.

As I've previously stated, NICS, can and should be improved upon. I would much rather my tax dollars be spent on rooting out the head cases that should be investigated before they snap and go on a killing spree. As opposed to taking away everyone else's guns in a foolish attempt to prevent the next mass shooting.

I disagree.

If you can't guarantee everybody's safety while taking away their ability to defend themselves by whatever means THEY deem necessary, you are responsible for their demise, should it occur.

You good with that?

I've noticed that GutterBoy has chosen not to respond to my attempts to educate him on this issue. And Tim did the same until he focked up and admitted it was a people issue rather than a gun issue.

It isn't the guns, guys. It's the current mental state of a certain, focked up segment of society, that is to blame for the mass shooting phenomenon we are experiencing.

Banning guns might make you feel good in the short term but it won't solve the problem in the long term.

Without comparing to me, you’re saying you think you could kill more people with a shotgun than an AR?

I think that.  In fact I know that to be true in scenarios where folks are congregated in tight spaces.  There are shotguns with high capacity magazines and or speed loaders and are semiautomatic.  With each shell of say 00 buck holding 12 to 14 projectiles equivilent in size to the standard .223 projectile of most AR 15's, yes, their greater letality is unquestionable.  The reason the military uses shotguns in only specific scenarios is that the ammunition is heavier and impracticle to carry in the field for most scenarios which do not include large congregations of people in confined areas, but the military does issue shotguns to some members for specific scenarios when they want to bring maximum firepower to a scenario.

How bout this:

Can the most proficient shooter in the world with an AR-15 kill more people in a crowded bar than the most proficient shooter in the world with a shotgun?

Unquestionably, no.

Okay, I don’t know enough about guns to argue against you.  How about a school?

Can one of the leftists explain to me what law the Fed could implement regarding firearms that would have prevented this guy from going mass batcrap?

Close quarters so yes, in a school.  We are just fortunate that most mass shooters are not well versed in the capablities of shotguns. Frankly, were there ever to be some sort of ban or restriction on maximum firepower to prevent mass shootings that ban should unquestionably include semiauto shotguns with magazine or drum feeds and should include speed loaders for shotguns.  The conversation on AR 15's happens due to their prevalence, their appeal to a wide audience.  They are what comes up, but they are not nearly as lethal as a combat style but civilian legal shotgun set up.  I get it, why argue about what has not yet occured, but that is not to say that AR's are some be all or end all, they are not.

Also, if we’re being honest the AR is widely chosen by these psychopaths because it’s completely customizable so fit, form and function make them ideal killing machines. There’s also a wide range of optics and capacity options. It doesn’t mean they should be banned. I’m old enough to remember April 15th 2013, while working 6 miles from where it happened, 2 ungrateful pr!ck brothers unleashing holy hell on a bunch of civilians having a good time with a couple of pressure cookers.

Those intent on evil will find a way.  I understand the desire to thwart them, to make  matters more difficult for them, but as we humans are inventive creatures most obstacles are easily overcome.

I choose Glock 30 years ago and have had no reservations about doing so.  I also have a S&W and a Sig, but my regular handgun is a Glock.   Familiarity with that platform would be hard to overcome.  It is second nature to me now while others are not.  Even those which are quite similar and with which I am somewhat profiicient just don't seem the same due to familiarity.

This reminds me.  I meant to go to Cabelas today to pick up some replacement trijicon night sights.    Maybe after the early games.
