Sweat to Bears / Chase to 49ers

Recommended Posts

The only thing I can think of is, it’s really hard to find edge rushers of his talent. My guess is they didn’t do this deal without at least a gentleman’s agreement that they could sign him in the off-season to stay. They have plenty of cap room.

as a Bears fan, it would be the most bears thing ever to give up a second round pick, and then the guy walks at the end of the year on a bad team. So certainly not ruling out that little fiasco.

As long as the Bears plan on resigning him then this is a good deal for both teams.  The Bears are not getting an edge rusher as talented as Sweat with the draft pick they gave up.  Now, if they could just hold on to their talented, young players like Jaylon Johnson.

Because it is the Bears...  They don't know any better, like most of their fans...

thanks. I meant here though. there's not a lot of crossover between the two forums anymore. Thats what happens when it's just a bunch of petulant children like axe elf and jkroh

I do miss the days where I exclusively posted at the mange bored and you could count on good discussion and info. These days I think you are more likely to get decent insight over here as long as politics can stay out of the sports threads.

Dobbs to Vikings

I think that was a good signing. Better than signing Winston.

I'm sure they have a plan to sign him.  Otherwise it makes zero sense.

I mean, I'm sure thats the plan but I am also sure it's a pretty big gamble to make with a 2nd (early) round pick. I get the feeling they would have to really overpay compared to other teams to convince him to sign to that "rebuild"... or tag him which would feel like a waste of $ on their part and would probably not sit well.

Just seems like the state this franchise is in, they would be better off keeping that pick and drafting someone they can control for 4 seasons.

They could’ve just signed him this off season with no draft pick spent, though

I'm sure they they have a deal in place with Sweat.   I mean it is thr Bears but there seems no possible way they don't.

They have a ton of money.  They could just stay in rebuild mode.   But why not?   I rip the Bears but this is a good move assuming they aren't just hoping he signs.

San Fran gets the younger, better player from Washington for less draft capital. He is also potentially a rental but of course, SF has aspirations right now.

It's a great move if they sign him.

All you do is whine and cry. You give no details on anything.

I don't see how they could have a deal in place. mid season deadline trade, what incentive does Sweat have to agree to a handshake deal right now?

It would have to be something over what his agent feels he can get on the open market in the offseason with guaranteed money in case of injury

woah, settle down, champ.  How am I whining and crying?  What details do you want?

factual details I provided:  Chase is younger than Sweat, he cost the 49ers less draft capital, Chase is also a rental player, San Fran has playoff and SB aspirations right now.

what about that doesn't qualify as factual details?

Ok. So you confirmed no deal. The Bears blew it. Sucks.

Hope you're right.  Would be hilarious.  I highly doubt it but I would laugh.

stop being bent out of shape and reaching.

No where did I say I "confirmed no deal".

My entire post that you quoted is very clearly my own opinion. Any rational person reading it would agree.

They probably just offered more to Sweat than he thought he could get anywhere.

Still funny Chase went for a pick that is 60 picks later.   Maybe Chase took a lesser deal to go play with Bosa and Sweat was after the overpay.

We will have to see.

Lynch doing what he does. Young will fit in very nicely on the DLine.

If it's only a rental, that's works as well, as the 9ers will likely get a 3rd round compensatory back anyway. Oops only 500k out of pocket, no brainer.

I'm obviously not ruling out that they had a handshake deal in place and if the Bears sign him it's a fair trade for a 27 year old, very good pass rusher. Hopefully they didn't overpay by a ton. I just think there would have to be a decent overpay with guaranteed money for him to forego free agency in favor of a rebuild.

Where as Chase might take less to play on a title contender with Bosa, as you said... OR San Fran might be totally fine just giving up a 3rd for a rental with no deal in place.
