It's kind of scary how so many people in this are dumb to the level of being liberal brainwashing victims. They literally are flat out buying into an anti American cult. Where's Jim Jones when you need him.

No JJ but they still drink the kook aid...

All of those bands had the same fans. And there was no such thing as 80's emo. They were mods/goths (same crowd of freaks at my school). Emo came much later.

A  mod/goths connection: .

The only 2 bands that would be considered mod and actually got radio airtime then were The Who & The Jam . The Jam breaking up was a real kick in the nuts to me

Emo /ˈm/ is a rock music genre characterized by emotional, often confessional lyrics. It emerged as a style of hardcore punk and post-hardcore from the mid–1980sWashington, D.C. hardcore scene, where it was known as emotional hardcore or emocore. The bands Rites of Spring and Embrace, among others, pioneered the genre. In the early-to-mid 1990s, emo was adopted and reinvented by alternative rock, indie rock, punk rock, and pop-punk bands, including Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbreaker, Cap'n Jazz, and Jimmy Eat World. By the mid-1990s, Braid, the Promise Ring, and the Get Up Kidsemerged from Midwest emo, and several independent record labels began to specialize in the genre. Meanwhile, screamo, a more aggressive style of emo using screamed vocals, also emerged, pioneered by the San Diego bands Heroin and Antioch Arrow. Screamo achieved mainstream success in the 2000s with bands like Hawthorne Heights, Silverstein, Story of the Year, Thursday, the Used, and Underoath.

Just telling you how it was in NorCal in the mid to late 80's. Mods rode vespas and hung out with the trenchcoated goths. They all hung out together listened to the same depressing music. Maybe they were confused about what they were.

I wasn't part of that crowd. I had friends and played sports.

But I listened to everything from The Smiths to AC/DC to David Allen Coe to Dead Kennedys to The Doors to Johnny Cash to Sigue Sigue Sputnik to The Clash to Peter Tosh to The Dead Milkmen.

Guys that listened to the Smiths got very depressed when the girl they liked didn’t like them. They moped around for weeks and listened to the Smiths. Probably did the girls homework for them.  Lol

Men of character admit when they're defeated and come back to fight another day.  They don't wear fake tan, fake hair and cry about how the other person cheated.

Morrissey reignites racism row by calling Chinese a 'subspecies'

For almost three decades, indie rock icon Morrissey has made almost as many enemies as devoted fans willing to hang on his every melancholy-drenched lyric. Described by one high court judge as "devious, truculent and unreliable", the former Smiths frontman is no stranger to controversy and criticism. But tomorrow he reignites a simmering row about his views on race in an interview in Guardian Weekend magazine, in which he describes Chinese people as a "subspecies" because of their treatment of animals.

Morrissey, a vegetarian and animal rights advocate who last year abandoned the stage at the Coachella festival in California because of the smell of cooking meat, described the treatment of animals in China as "absolutely horrific", referring to recent news stories about animals in Chinese circuses and zoos. He told interviewer Simon Armitage: "Did you see the thing on the news about their treatment of animals and animal welfare? Absolutely horrific. You can't help but feel that the Chinese are a subspecies."

Wait, a leftist is racist?  NO WAY!!!  I'm shocked!  NOT.

Ok, so if people then call out Marr, for example and boycott him, you're going to back them up if others call said boycotter's names and such, right?

I don't have a problem with boycotts. I may not agree with the reasons (see: Bud Lite, which I boycott because it's horrible swill, not because of their spokespeople), but it's a free country despite what rockheads like jonmx say.

If you feel the need to call Marr names, have at at it. But there's a big difference between calling people names or expressing indignation and doxxing, harassment, and threats. I will not support that behavior.

Some damn good bands in that list. Rites of Spring are regularly credited with being the original true emo band, for whatever that's worth. But they were solid. Wire's album Pink Flag, widely touted as one of the great punk albums ever and a huge influence on early 80s hardcore, has a lot of emo elements and came several years before Rites of Spring.

Sunny Day Real Estate is probably the best true example of contemporary emo I've heard. They only released a handful of albums.  Their debut Diary is a flat-out masterpiece, and I'm a guy that's lukewarm at best on most emo bands. Jawbreaker were decent, I had a couple friends that were seriously into them, but it never clicked for me. The Promise Ring were also ridiculously good.

Nice post, @HellToupee

No, I don't support that behavior, but it's literally what the left has been doing on a regular basis ever since 2008.

Well, since you've conveniently grouped me in with a few million other people then I guess I have to agree with them.

OR, you can stop telling me what I think based on the ridiculous perceptions of some ignorant blowhards on a mostly hard-right forum that spews this shite constantly.

IDGAF what you think the ambiguously monolithic "left" thinks. I think for myself, and am not in alignment with every stupid ass thing every stupid ass person assumes I'm in alignment with. Do you see me defending any of the behavior you're trying to corner me into a gotcha moment with?

so the timing is great, Morrissey cancelled his tour in Orange County last night and tonight, my buddy threw an impromptu event (Nowhere Fast So Cal Smiths and Morrissey cover band) and it was packed and amazing.

was as good as any Morrissey show I have been to, and he played for 3 hours, unlike Moz who plays for 45 mins sometimes

I think Morrisey is concerned about the influx of and influence Muslims have in the UK, considering their views and treatment of the lgbtq + community. Seems like a valid concern.

I doubt it, because he has never given that as a justification for his anti-Muslim views and he seems against all immigrants providing they aren't white.

The Smiths - Bigmouth Strikes Again (1986)

Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking
When I said I'd like to smash every tooth
In your head
Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking
When I said by rights you should be
Bludgeoned in your bed
