Californians shocked by electric bills after rate hike: 'Like you're getting punished'

Millions of Californians can expect to pay an extra $400 a year on average on utilities

Some California residents are "stunned" by the high cost of their latest electric and gas bill, after a major utility company raised prices for millions of customers last month.

"It’s almost like you’re getting punished," 90-year-old Dorothy Lovell told The San Francisco Chronicle. The Santa Rosa resident's utility bill was $696.64 in January.

"I really was not prepared," longtime San Francisco resident Rebecca Gallegos told the paper after her bill increased by $162 from the month prior. "I’m blown away."

Utility company Pacific Gas and Electric Co. "PG&E" announced in November that their customers would be paying about $35 more a month on their utility bills in 2024 after the California Public Utilities Commission approved the new rates. That adds up to over $400 extra a year.

Good. Californians voted for this.  Why are they so stunned?  Serves most of them right (unless you're voting Conservative).

If you want things to change for the better then maybe stop f@cking voting for liberals in every election.

No nukes, no coal, no natural gas, no wind turbines in any view corridor, of course its expensive.  No worries though.  The Timscrotay/Biden plan of having illegals run on treadmills that look like ferris wheels turning turbines will power the state.  It will be festive.

Already they have tried out the homeless version.  At first the homeless wouldm not run but then the got the idea of enticing them with bags of fentynal which are just out of their reach.

Also, they have to make up for all the lawsuits somehow, right?

That's not all.  California passed a bill last year to add  an income based surcharge to electric bills.  Even some Dems now realize that was a mistake and want to repeal it, but Newsom doesn't want that.  So, Californians, I hope you're happy with your overlords.

Yes, I've driven past them.  All out in sensitive dessert ecosystems, out by the Joshua Tree National Park where they are out of sight and out of mind and killing lord nows how many migratory birds.

How adequate of an electrical grid do you imagine all those turbines produce?

That's communism. I can't believe that's even Constitutionally allowable.

Well in a sense, you are being punished....for voting in Democrats.....so yeah, punishment is an excellent way to look at it.

That's what the American Left - and the western left in general - are shooting for.  Make no mistake.  They'll just call it something else but it will still be Communism.

There isn't anything a conservative can do about it.  They're outnumbered.

Glad I don't have PG&E

We only have them for a couple of things and it's always higher in the winter, now it's higher ALL year. It's only our heater and we do have a gas stove. This year it tripled in one month when the colder weather hit.

The CPUC is one of Gavin's biggest donors. Them and the teachers unions.

I'd venture to guess not adequate at all.

Yep. We don't have the option for gas on my street which doesn't bother me one bit.
I plunked down close to 20k for new HVAC system last spring and during the summer, with the A/C kept at 72 degrees 24/7 and we never topped $150.00 per month.
Wintertime we average about $100.00 (wood burning stove helps...Haven't turned on the heat yet this winter)

There are some in the Hollister area too, I believe. Altamont pass is a big one, these are all near the Bay Area.

I should move to California and sign up; sounds like a great way to lose weight.
