Any tips/suggestions? I was too late to get into the seasonal permit lottery but they do a day-before one I plan on entering everyday I'm in Zion NP. The AllTrails app I use (great for hiking, I use it all the time) says a lot of times they don't even check so hopefully I'll get lucky either way.

We got lucky with the day-before option, especially since we were only in Zion one day (it was part of driving back from Michigan to AZ). They did check when we went. Also we use AllTrails which I agree is great -- we just used it to find a random hike in Clinton NJ to kill time before meeting my cousin. Anyway, tips/suggestions... You have to go uphill a ways to get to the actual landing, but it's either paved or very smooth. Parts of that have good views, especially if you enjoy watching out of shape people in poor shoes/clothing struggle with the climb. The Angel's Landing part is chained off very well; there was maybe one small part that was a little sketchy. But unless you have a fear of heights, you are protected quite well. Heck, I did two more dangerous hikes this past year in Sedona (Fay Canyon arch, and Devil's Bridge in the snow which was somewhat risky). We went in the morning to avoid the heat, but not crazy early. Nevertheless, the earlier you go, the less crowded it will be. My biggest advice is to bring your patience -- many parts are one-way, and you'll find yourself in a group waiting for a pile of people to finish going the other way. Hope you get to do it! Let us know how it goes.

No thanks. My patience are too short and I'd become annoyed and ruin the hike.

Then you would particularly dislike the people who are scared and go painfully slow, but don't think to step aside for the people moving at a normal pace... Seriously though, I am the most impatient person in the world, to which my wife will gladly attest. It really wasn't too bad. You just need to breathe deeply and enjoy the spectacular views throughout the landing a few times in the hike.

dain11279 976 Posted June 26, 2024 Update!@# Just got done at Zion for today. Was here for about 4 hours. Didn’t get accepted for angels landing so I’ll try again tomorrow. The park is incredible either way, I walked prolly 8 miles or so and rode the shuttle some too so basically saw the whole park. I will be getting here very early tomorrow to try and beat the crowds and the heat. It’s currently hovering right around 100 degrees at 1 in the afternoon. Gonna spend a few hours here again in the morning and then swing over to Bryce Canyon after.

West Rim trail is pretty good, but you’ll want to start at the top and probably get an overnight permit or else it’s a very long day hike. Goes right by Angel’s Landing near the end. Definitely check out Temple of Sinawava too and hike up the Virgin River narrows a couple miles

And beyond. You can walk another mile or so to the left up higher and get EPIC views. You’re actually higher than Angels Landing at some points up there. Just an incredible incredible experience. But damn that is definitely a workout. Almost 2,000 feet of elevation gain in 2 miles. I was on the trail shortly after 7 and glad that I was cuz the sun hadn’t came out yet and there was a nice breeze. Certainly helped. And I got accepted for Angels Landing tomorrow! So looks like I’m hoofing it again in the AM. This was the main goal when I came out here so I’ve gotta do it. Then when I get done it’s back to Vegas after for my Saturday AM flight

Of course there was no one checking permits today Sad that I’m going back, I’d go back and do it tomorrow if I could. The chain section actually wasn’t too bad to be honest. More mentally tough than physical. The views up top are just to die for.

There was one small part between chains that I thought was a tad dicey, but otherwise it was fine.
