He’s told a couple diff stories so far so he’s not helping himself out here.

Yup, he's in real trouble. This story is not going away.

Yep. He only bet on his team to win. Let’s follow this logic.

Pete bet on the reds today, he’s gonna make sure he does everything to win the game including things like overusing certain pitchers.

next day. Hey Pete didn’t bet today. Bookie loads up against the reds.

when you don’t bet on your team every single day, which he didn’t, it sends a clear signal for one and for two, we know he got into huge debts it sets up a scenario where maybe he owes the bookie a little too much so I’m just gonna not bet the game today as an arrangement.

Yeah that’s why betting on your own team to win is still bad, but that’s not throwing games

View it how you want. It doesn’t take much when you’re in the pocket of a bookie. Leave a pitcher struggling in an extra inning. Not pinch hit in critical times. Give a star player a day off at a certain time

No real good details out there at the moment but he and his interpreter made it worse off the start here for sure.

If it’s just his interpreter betting on soccer and Aussie Rules football or something I don’t see MLB doing anything.

Dodgers are beyond stacked and he is set to have a crazy good season.

The bookie was illegal. This isn’t a casino. The bookie as soon as he takes the bet has compromised Ohtani. That’s why there has to be a wall between the game and gambling. It’s not just about Ohtani.

Yep. The Reds were my team as kid. Pete was the man (more of a George Foster fan and then Eric Davis and Dave Parker when Pete was managing) but Rose is a major creep and a liar.

His story regarding betting can’t be trusted and you absolutely cannot bet on your own sport in any manner for the reasons you have said.

Yeah I look at it kinda like steroids before MLB cared about them.  Even though they were still illegal in the country, MLB didn’t do anything.  If the original story is true, Ohtani could potentially get charged criminally but I doubt the MLB does anything significant to him.

I haven’t heard enough details. It does seem crazy his interpreter alone lost this much. But I think he gets paid like 500k a year as well.

What a dumbass to fock up that gig 😂

Who the hell uses a bookie 😂😂

Someone that doesn’t want a record of their bets.

If that's the story. It's very shady at best.

I'll guarantee this, the interpreter isn't going to take the fall one way or another. Especially when the Feds are about to breathe down their necks.

It's about to get real. We'll see how loyal he really is. The Feds will certainly subpoena phone records, etc. The truth will come out.

This is a good point or the guy wanted action on Sumo wrestling or some weird shet and is a degenerate / moron who didn’t want to draw attention to his boss.

Ohtani about to have some off the field distractions. He’ll still go 40/40 this year!

I wouldn't be too sure about that. This is a huge distraction that's not going away anytime soon. Imagine reporters from all over the world addressing it in every press conference, etc. Then he has to worry about possible jail time. This isn't some dude putting $5 on a craps table.

I think people are really underestimating what's about to happen.

Eric the Red was my favorite non padres player of all time and somehow I ended up with what was rumored to be Barry Larkins team USA bat.

I knew a lot of former players and they all said the same about Pete

Ohtani won’t ever go 40/40. He doesn’t run that much. Neither do the dogs

Baseball’s relationship with legal gambling is far more important to them than Ohtani. They have to do something before the politicians get involved like they did with steroids.

He’s on pace for 81 😂

No pitching this year so he’s going to go off!

Amazing baseball player and competitor but he’s a sleaze.

Well I’m sure Ohtani is going to pay him a lot more than $4.5 million to take the fall.

Unless gambling on baseball is involved, the feds probably care more about the bookie than who was making the bets.

The rules are crystal clear - you bet on the sport you are banned. GTFO no questions asked. Pete did, he lied about it for years.

He is still a badass player (marginal manager) but he is banished from the league.

This Otahni thing is pretty wild. We’ll see how this plays out but if worst case he was just placing bets on soccer or whatever WGAF.

If it is found that Ohtani did gamble on baseball games, would Manfred have the balls to ban him from baseball or would they just keep it as quiet as possible...

He has never had 30 SB in a season and you think he will get 40?  I don't think he will be running much with Freeman behind him and Betts on base...

For sure. That lineup is absurd.

Pitching might be an issue. They are the new Yankees so they’ll just keep robbing teams.

dont forget Will Smith, I think he has his huge breakout

the fact that Teoscar is hitting 6/7, he would be a cleanup hitter on almost every other team says alot

I hope this works out as well as the Mets attempt to buy a world series.  That epic fail was such a pleasure to watch.

That translator is going to commit seppuku before he turns on Ohtani.  That's how they do that over there.

Ippei Mizuhara is a con man who lied about his education and previous job experience to get his job with Ohtani and the Dodgers.  Ohtani does not gamble, all the gambling was done by Mizuhara.  Ohtani was completely caught off gaurd and had zero clue what was going on and Mizuhara was lying to everyone trying to cover upnthat he stole/swindled the money from Ohtani.
