Gas vs hybrid vs electric

Recommended Posts

Ford focusing on hybrid as full electric is stoopid right now.

I can get behind a hybrid but Fock the full electric craze.

what say you?

I bought a hybrid. Not really for the environment, but most of the upgraded features only came on the hybrid model.  Not a plug in.  I like it.   Very smooth, and yeah I get about 15 MPG more than my old Impala.   I drive 25 miles each way to work daily so that is OK with me.

I think hybrids are the FAR better option today.

The whole electric thing was not well thought out.   We are already pressing our capacity to the limits in some areas, and unless we go nuclear it is kind of pointless anyways.  The infrastructure for charging stations to handle cars is not there.  The access to the exotic materials for batteries is severely limited and the toxic waste they produce is enormous.  Typical planning by libtards where the solution is worse than the problem.

Hybrids are OK, but only marginal benefits.  I get 40 mpg on my gas powered Hyndai Kona.

My solution is we should just beam people around like they did on star trek.

The ideal setup for multi-car households IMO:

EV for daily commuting and like 95% driving.

Gas or Hybrid for 2nd car.

Eventually 100% some option that isn’t gas to power moving us around.

Is that part of infrastructure? Because the roads in NY suck.

I like the idea of electric vehicles. For 95% of people, an electric vehicle will work for their commute. If EVs ever dominate the market I think fixing them will be easier.

Our electrical grid cannot handle the load these cars will put on it though. Environmentally I don't care, but I've heard Chinese cities which are 30-40% EV have much cleaner air these days.

I'm not sure about hybrids. I feel like things that try to do too much aren't good at either.

One of many reasons the infrastructure bill was a joke.

Using gas when needed is better than not making it to your destination.

I don't understand this comment. I see lots of people who run out of gas on the side of the road.

Then they can use electric in a hybrid.  That’s my point.  2 ways for the engine to work.  When one goes the other is there.  More MPT.  (Miles per trip)

Oh yeah, I get that. My point is and maybe I'm wrong, (because my FIL who has worked on cars his whole life likes hybrids) is that items that are 2-1 or 3-1 don't do anything great but multiple things average to below average.

Maybe Hybrids work very well. I haven't done the research TBH

Understand your point too.  I think going hybrid is the right step in the right direction.

I was looking at the Denali EV. 450 mile range. I was trying to figure out how I take it to deer camp in the UP and use it to power the whole camp. There aren't a lot of charging stations in Michigan UP.

Getting better MPG is fine. Getting off gas totally would be much better.

You can't bring an EV charging station to the side of the road.

If you drive like 50 miles or less a day, have access to your own plug-in (110 would work in light commute TBH or upgrade your plug to 220) EV’s totally work.

They do cost more initially, they are new tech so “scary” among other issues for adoption.

They have way less shet to break on them, are fast, you don’t give a shet about gas prices for the positives.

Yeah, just as easy as going to the nearest gas station and buying a small gas can.

Hybrid is clearly the best option.  All electric is clearly the worst.

You are on the left coast.  Of course the money wasn’t going to real Americans.  7 charging stations in 2 years?   That’s good?

But it created thousands of jobs. 10 to install them and the rest to oversee it.

I don’t have much of a commute so I’ve got gas powered for longer distances. If I had a daily commute I probably would go electric. If you can charge them at your house the whole charging stations thing really is not an issue other than for road trips

Why would you want one without the subsidy?
