FLASHBACK, 2018: Joe Biden Brags At CFR Meeting About Withholding Aid To Ukraine To Force Firing Of Prosecutor

Former Vice President Joe Biden brags about threatening to withhold military aid to Ukraine as a pressure tactic to force the firing of a prosecutor he did not like.

JOE BIDEN, 23 JANUARY 2018: They made—I mean, I’ll give you one concrete example. I was—not I, but it just happened to be that was the assignment I got. I got all the good ones. And so I got Ukraine. And I remember going over, convincing our team, our leaders to—convincing that we should be providing for loan guarantees. And I went over, I guess, the 12th, 13th time to Kiev. And I was supposed to announce that there was another billion-dollar loan guarantee. And I had gotten a commitment from Poroshenko and from Yatsenyuk that they would take action against the state prosecutor. And they didn’t.

So they said they had—they were walking out to a press conference. I said, nah, I’m not going to—or, we’re not going to give you the billion dollars. They said, you have no authority. You’re not the president. The president said—I said, call him.

(Laughter.)

I said, I’m telling you, you’re not getting the billion dollars. I said, you’re not getting the billion. I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours. I looked at them and said: I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money. Well, son of a b*tch. (Laughter.) He got fired.

State department Memo form Oct 2015 stated Ukraine had fulfilled its anti corruption stipulations and the third round of loan guarantees would be released. But it doesn’t matter. These leftards can’t put two and two together.  If state hadn’t authorized the release, then why did Biden have to go there and make demands before it would be?

To oust a corrupt prosecutor who was serving the Russians. And the State Department did not clear it; they were on board with what Biden did. Stop listening to conservative BS.

The fact that the same prosecutor was investigating his son Hunter's cronies with Burisma never seems to register.

Putting aside everything else wrong with this post, if I am the most progressive person on this board, progressives have a real problem.

In 2008 I didn’t vote for President. I was an early fan of John McCain but I couldn’t support his VP choice. In 2012 I voted for Mitt Romney because I liked his economic policies (still do.)

Iowa is a presumed Trump state, but the margins if this is close to accurate is positive for Trump in the rust belt.  Hard to imagine all of those being blue if Iowa is this red.  There will be some bleed-over into those rural WI and MI counties at the margins.

That's a very interesting poll, thanks.  A few things that caught my eye:

Quote

Donald Share, a 63-year-old Waterloo resident and poll respondent, said he became a Republican because of Trump and plans to vote for him in November.

“I like (that) he doesn't take any guff from anybody, that he puts America first,” Share said. “You know, we need to take care of our own before we worry about everybody else.”

He said Trump’s criminal conviction has only solidified his resolve in voting for him.

“His convictions on these charges are part of the reason my mind is made up,” Share said. “The more they try to get him out of the picture, the stronger they make him. I, for one, believe that the charges are bogus.”

I wonder how many people across the country share this guy's disdain for the lawfare of the NY trial, and will change their vote accordingly?

Quote

Danielle Goedken, a 23-year-old Cedar Falls resident and poll respondent, said she plans to vote for Biden this fall — reluctantly.

“I kind of picked my lesser of two evils, in a sense,” said Goedken, who has a bachelor’s degree in political science. “It wasn't an easy decision to come to, but I felt that (Biden) was the most closely aligned with my values.”

In particular, she approves of how he is handling issues around abortion.

From an issue standpoint, abortion is Trump's greatest risk.  If he could just stop bragging about his judges and have a not-extreme position on it, he can possibly diffuse it a little.

Which brings us to:

Quote

Iowans believe nation is headed in the wrong direction

Iowans overwhelmingly believe the country is headed in the wrong direction.

Seventy-seven percent say things in the country have gotten off on the wrong track, while just 17% say things are headed in the right direction.

That includes 96% of Republicans who believe the country is headed in the wrong direction and 45% of Democrats.

Ouch.  I swear, if Trump just stood silent at the debates holding a placard saying "Biden's grade = F-" for 90 minutes, he'd win going away.  But we all know Trump can't do that.

Like I've said before. Trump didn't win the popular in 16.  His Party got smoked in 18. He lost the popular and the election in 20. It's not going to really change.  Trump will probably win back GA; but that's about it.  He is exactly what he's told us he is in the past 10 years; and not enough people like that.

He got 12 million more votes in 20 than he did in 2016. Obama lost both houses prior to his re-election.
