I've commented in plenty of threads (unless you want to math that too). It's a message board where I- like anyone else- can pick and choose what I want to respond to. And you yourself have name called me all kinds of things based on my profession."

 

We then basically called a détente with one another. But then he kept poking with passive aggressive shots so I took some back. He then e-mailed me to say: "What happened? I haven’t said a word to you. Why all the name calling?" He then declared himself a "Scorpion" probably because his life is a fable anyway.

After he back and forth argued with me a few times I asked "Are you somewhere on the autism spectrum?" He insulted about being a time thief, calling my kids names, calling me names (this happened over multiple messages)- every time I just kept asking where he was on the spectrum. 

After two days of seeing he couldn't shake me off that he took the private conversation to the board to paint me as unhinged and say that I was just e-mailing him out of the blue and he was just an innocent player in all of this. He also didn't like that I chose to start replying to his comments in the message chain as opposed to on the board as I was keeping the personal stuff off the main board and honestly- purposely being a at that point. 

Our exchange in messages is 4 pages long and spans from November 4, 2022 to December 1, 2022:

I have 49 messages in those 4 pages.

He has 47 messages in those 4 pages

And because I never left the conversation and have it all- anyone could see it if they so desired- although I'd have no idea why anyone would care that much.

Also, I've had long PM exchanges as well.  But mine were in topics like:  with @penultimatestrawdiscussing treatment options before my surgery, and @DonSmy throat cancer buddy which spans from my suspicious symptoms to adjuvant radiation and beyond, and @RaiderHaters Revenge who provided me products to ease my chemo journey, and @Artistawho clued me in to wear iced gloves and slippers so the chemo wouldn't kill the nerves in my extremities.

And that's just the cancer-related ones.

I've been fortunate to meet many Geeks in person as well; most recently, @Bertand his (then future) wife in Vegas, and dinner with @Bier Meisterwith our wives and his daughter when they were in Phoenix visiting ASU.

Back in 2009, my daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  We started doing what is now called the One Walk fundraiser, and I posted here about it in case anyone wanted to donate.  Many posters donated thousands of dollars total every year.  I will always be grateful for the generosity people showed.

I've developed many friends here; some I've met, most I haven't, but that doesn't make the friendships any less real.

Add to that, with my laryngectomy it is difficult for me to speak.  Communicating with folks with the written word is much easier for me.

So I don't consider my time here a waste.

You drive by every once in a while, make some seemingly witty comments, then disappear.  That's cool, this place means different things to different people.

But you wondered why I spend time here, and now you know.

I've been called a pedophile here numerous times. A groomer. Someone who approves of children being assaulted. ETC. So yeah- sorry I'm not looking to buddy up with people around here too often because not only are those people here making those claims but there are people who just go along with it.

She's OK, thanks.  She is the one who moved to NYC last summer (another topic where I received a lot of good input from folks here).  So that is a little scary, having her so far away.  My wife gets her blood sugar measurements on her phone, which is good because she occasionally goes low (potentially fatal) in the middle of the night and the alarm doesn't wake her, so my wife calls her to make sure she wakes up and gets some sugar.  

She did get an endocrinologist appointment, which is difficult for adult diabetics to do, but is required for renewing prescriptions (side note:  there is no cure for Type 1 yet, but patients need to get prescriptions re-authorized for... why exactly?).

The phone thing is cool and it is amazing how far technology has advanced on that stuff. 

My daughter went to the ER, and they confiscated her insulin pump because "they needed to control ALL her meds."  A few hours later, no insulin ever arrived from the pharmacy there, and her sugar was through the roof.  My wife and I were apoplectic and raised holy hell until they gave us her pump back.

Fast forward, she is in the ER again, and they wanted her pump.  We told them they would take it over our dead bodies.  We won that standoff.
