Trump announces Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy to lead new ‘Department of Government Efficiency’

By

Published Nov. 12, 2024

Updated Nov. 12, 2024, 8:09 p.m. ET

President-elect Donald Trump continued to fill his administration at breakneck speed Tuesday night, tapping SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy to head up a new “Department of Government Efficiency.”

Despite the name, Trump clarified in a statement that the Musk-Ramaswamy effort would “provide advice and guidance from outside of Government” in tandem with the White House and its Office of Management & Budget “to drive large scale [sic] structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before.”

"It will become, potentially, ‘The Manhattan Project’ of our time," the announcement on Tuesday evening said. "Republican politicians have dreamed about the objectives of ‘DOGE’ for a very long time."

4, 400 employees in the department of education.  Why, I don’t know. Every state has their own department of education.

1. Elon plus Vivek is a home run.  I do not think most people realize the significance of teaming these two up.

2.  Any person here at the Geek Club who’s ever worked in a business environment knows the importance of driving efficiency and cutting waste to directly affect the bottom line. it’s about time our own elected government thinks in these terms.

This could get super interesting.  I wonder how many billions in foreign aid to other countries is going to go away?

2023

Ukraine ($16.4 billion)

Israel ($3.3 billion)

Ethiopia ($1.95 billion)

Jordan ($1.65 billion)

Egypt ($1.43 billion)

Afghanistan ($1.19 billion)

Somalia ($1.13 billion)

Yemen ($1.05 billion)

Congo ($987 million)

 Syria ($896 million)

Other than Isreal, are any of those allies?  How many are chanting "death to America" in the streets?

2024

Israel ($3.3 billion)

Jordan ($1,45 billion)

Egypt ($1,43 billion)

Ukraine ($774 million)

Nigeria ($625 million)

Mozambique ($564 million)

Uganda ($562 million)

Tanzania ($561 million)

Kenya ($514 million)

Zambia ($507 million)

Realistically I bet they can easily cut 30% of jobs and 30%+ of useless bogus funding.

It's probably higher even. There's so many fraudulent programs that are nothing but money grabs. All Americans should be exited by this.

And these people all take private sector jobs? This sounds like “learning code” for truck drivers TBH.

Truck drivers contribute to society far more than these folks.

If they're not warranted then why have them? Would you hire someone just to hire someone? That makes no sense.

I've been sorely disappointed for the last 4 years, it can't possibly get any worse.

Let's take DEI Kamala who you almost hired for example. The Dunce spent 1 BILLION on her campaign and is 20 million in debt. Only to get smoked. Do you not see the problem? She's something special ain't she?

I’m a staunch proponent of eliminating government waste and inefficiency.  I’ve felt that way since I was a teen, before I could even vote.

However…

I feel trepidation about having the government run like a sociopathic corporation.  Corporations care ONLY about the bottom line— do anything at all for the sake of return to shareholders.  Corporations by design ignore the human element and the real human consequences of their actions.  That should give everyone reason for caution when transferring the corporate attitude to government.

I want to eliminate government stupidity, but it needs to be done thoughtfully.

That is how I read what you posted.  You do realize our government is completely in bed with these evil corporations and our government no longer protects the people, but instead protects monopolistic corporations as long as they play ball with their elitistist authoritarian agenda.

There’s 438 federal agencies. That’s like 2 created for every year we’ve been a country. Start there.

If it is not below 200 by the time Trump leaves office it is a failure.

While I do like the premise of this effort, they really  have no idea what they are up against here.

You would need to remove 75% of agency leadership to make an impact.  These people are so entrenched with making themselves important that they will fight ANY effort to improve.

I deal with these folks every focking day, they are miserable.....

Their trick has always been if their is a 10 percent cut, the agency eliminates the 10% which is the only thing they do which is important so retards like Tim will go see you can't cut.  This is not Elon's first rodeo with dealing with massive wasted overhead and useless functions.  The key is you don't let the agency make the decision on what gets cut.

Not all agencies are created equal, each one faces some variation of dysfunction.

By way of example, DOT is likely one of THE WORST run organizations I have seen in government.  Everything about that agency is just bad....... gutting it would be the only way.

Conversely, NIH is better run, but as a financial problem.....that focking place is like the mafia.....and the egoes and fighting ....oh my god.....but you really cant get rid of the leadership without severely degrading its ability to serve....its a BIG problem
