Yeah, they could never put that in an actual budget next session. I guess they stop researching now. 💯🤡

Maybe they are relying on Biden curing cancer before his term is up.

This lunatic Liberal is fighting for Female Crash Test Dummies getting added to the bill. It's sexist to have all male Crash Test Dummies. 😂 🌈

I think of crash test dummies as being fairly androgenous.  Am I misinformedf?  Do they have external genitalia, and if so to they have various versions based upon race?

Can't they just put a wig on it and call it a Female? Isn't that what Liberals have been doing forever?

This spending bill was going to pass. Johnson had the votes. Elon and Trump decided it’s no good and blew it up.

You can think that’s great but it is why they are now scrambling to get a new deal.

If it was a good bill they could have voted and passed it. Trump is not in power yet That's the bottom line.

It wasn't a good bill it was filled with pork and protection for Democrats.

So yes I think it was a good thing. BTW this CR directly effects me. But I'm good with that.

Trump, or Elon which is crazy, killed something that was going to get through Congress. Now we are here with a potential shutdown, It’s not a question it is was happened was my point.

I honestly don't understand why everybody's freaking out. People are acting as if this doesn't happen all the time.

Every year sometimes twice a year we have the same argument Democrats are shutting down the government Republicans are shutting down the government. And it's always about whose pork gets funded.

What appears to be different this time around is Elon back by the power of trump is saying we're not funding either of the pork.

So again yes I am really good with that

They threaten to shut down the government every year, and each time they swoop in at the last minute and pass some bullschit to act like heroes. You Nancies need to settle down.

I tend to agree it’s not world ending. In the past these things just end up costing more money to cover all the stuff that didn’t happen when we were shutdown and people are inconvenienced. It is a sign of disfunction to perform their most basic task however.

That Elon seems to have spearheaded is unusual, but unusual is what I expect from a Trump WH.

We went through something similar in 2018 under Trump, figures, when he shut down from Dec 22 to Jan 25.  President Musk has already came out and said the shutdown should last until Jan 20th but we'll see if he changes his mind.

Of course it wasn't catastrophic, but people were affected, people didn't get paid, small businesses were hurt, and the CBO estimated an $8B loss in GDP during that time.  So it's not "good" as some idiots would say.

I thought Tim would chime in since he apparently knows enough about this subject to question another poster on their subject knowledge.  Me, I know basically nothing about this.  Maybe we have a local who has followed the developments that could chime in.

The old bridge was sufficient. There’s 3 ways to get through the city. I’ll combine the Harbor Tunnel and the Fort McHenry Tunnel as 1. They both go straight through the city. 695 is a highway/beltway that circles the city and you can go east or west off of 95. The Key Bridge connected the east side, which is no longer an option. While I’d estimate only 15% of traffic used the east side, the tunnels immediately picked up that additional 15% and has been a traffic nightmare going south in the mornings and north in the evenings. The tunnels don’t allow hazmat trucks, so that traffic has been diverted to 695 west, which was already a sh!t show.
I don’t know why it’s costing so much, or why the amount suddenly increased like it did. Definitely some pork built in.
I also don’t know why the timeline is so long. The original bridge was built in about the same time 50 years ago. It’s hard to believe technology hasn’t advanced enough to get this built quicker.

How much would it cost? (from Sept 2023 shutdown possibility story)

The answer mostly hinges on how long a government shutdown might last.

The most recent one lasted 34 days in the winter of 2018-19 and delayed at least $18 billion in spending, which was resumed once the government reopened. That shutdown cost $11 billion at the time, of which the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated $3 billion was lost permanently.

The 2018-19 shutdown dragged down U.S. economic growth, leading to an $8 billion hit to real gross domestic product, or a loss of 0.2%, according to the CBO. This time around, the Bipartisan Policy Center think tank forecasts a shutdown could cost upward of $1 billion a week.

If they end up cutting 100 billion in pork from the final CR and it costs us a few billion I would call that a win.

If your concerns are our debt, check out how that went during Trump’s last run. In this bill he wants to eliminate the debt ceiling and made comments that our debt is a meaningless number 🤔
