I have wondered why they don’t build bigger reservoirs in these drought areas for when they get crazy amounts of rain that just runs off. That seems like something that should be done in lots of places that are low on water and have a shitton of people.

We saw the same thing with Katrina.  People don't like to invest in disaster prevention.  They wait until disaster hits and then invest so it doesn't happen again.

A homeless man has been busted on suspicion of arson close to where one of the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles broke out — after brave locals tackled him as he used what looked like a “flamethrower.”

The unidentified suspect was seen riding around Woodland Hills on a bicycle on Thursday afternoon setting fire to several old Christmas trees and garbage cans at the same time as the Kenneth Fire started, locals said.

Renata Grinshpun told KTLA she was in her backyard when she heard a car screech to a stop and a man yelling, “Neighbors, he’s trying to start a fire! Call 911!’”

California is the third largest state. Everything there is expensive, including labor. What are you guys proposing, hiring 100,000 people to clear the forest of debris? Wanna bet how many of them would get shot once they ventured north of wine country?

Bunch of experts in forestry and fire prevention in the GC all of a sudden. I'm not saying mistakes weren't made and people shouldn't be held responsible, but the armchair analysis from the GC, half of whom have never set foot in the state and are only interested in scoring political points, is funny.

The state has people who get paid to solve problems like that.  I am not an expert but common sense tells me they could have done more.

News channel covered it, literally asking the speaker, "Is this the right time to call a special session when there should be one for wildfires?"

Of course they could have done more. Of course there were mistakes made, and incompetence, and of course life long politicians like Newsom and Bass are going try to cover their butts afterwards and try to paint things in the best possible light. What else is new? 
 

But guys like @Strike are taking all this to another level and attempting to make the argument that it is liberalism or the Democratic Party that is at fault, or woke ideology, or whatever. And they are further implying that if we only had conservatives and Republicans in charge a lot of this could have been prevented. I think that’s crap and I think it’s in really bad taste even to make the argument.
