Yes it was. But not nearly as terrible as these new tariffs. They are catastrophic. And what’s happening in the stock market isn’t healthy, it’s stupid and unnecessary. Kind of like yourself.

My retirement account balances prove otherwise. Market was fine today Sally, stop hyperventilating.

Biden increased tariffs on semiconductors and electric vehicles. NVDA and TSLA hit all time highs later that year.

Proves Tim wrong, tariffs had very little impact.

I feel bad. Even though he never learns anything I suppose I should try and educate @The Real timschochet a little bit.

When I said tariffs were the catalyst that isn't exactly true.  It's the uncertainty behind the tariffs.  If Trump has done anything wrong, to negativity affect the markets, it's being wishy washy on and off with the tariffs.  The market hates uncertainty.  Had he said it and just done it the market wouldn't be as volatile.  But I get he has to do that when he's using them as a bargaining chips.  However, make no mistake, if it wasn't tariff uncertainty it would have been something else; war, crime, scandal you name it. We were due a correction and that's what the market does - historic runs lead to sell offs - the definition of a correction.

In reality though, in real life, not the land of makebelieve Tim lives in, the president has very little effect on the market.  And I can quote to me saying the same thing when Biden was president.

If all else fails try breathing into a paper bag. I've heard that helps. You're welcome.

You really don’t understand the difference between Biden’s minor tariffs which were bad, and these new tariffs which are worse than Smoot-Hawley do you? You might want to read the Wall Street Journal.
But why am I wasting my time? Everything you write is wrong and stupid.

I finally figured out what Trump is doing.

My original thesis was Trump used the stock market as a scoreboard and therefore, he would do anything to make sure stocks went up, so I was a bit caught off guard by Trump allowing the stock market to get beat up so much.

I still think that's true to an extent, but now I believe there is a competing idea in Trump's mind.  I believe he admires what Putin did with Ukraine.  Not necessarily that he thinks going to war is admirable, but I think he admires that Putin used Russia's power to bully Ukraine and gain territory.  Trump is now preoccupied with this concept of wielding as much power as necessary to (ostensibly at least) gain advantage.  This is why he's talking about annexing Canada and Greenland, and reclaiming the Panama Canal.  He's like a kid seeing a sibling start playing a game, and then all of sudden all he wants to do is play that game now when the thought never crossed his mind before.

Moral of the story is Trump is going to need some sort of win that he can hang his hat on or he'll need Putin to get his d¡ck slapped somehow so Trump loses interest in this track of heavy handed diplomacy.

You paint a false picture. Trump knows not to just come out a bash world leaders in the press. That doesn't get things done. The US is only 1 of a few world powers. Trump doesn't want to take over the world. He throws up distractions while he works to get real stuff done.

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

I think Trump is just an attention wh0re who’s addicted to chaos. He says things to trigger folks so they’ll keep talking about Trump. It’s the only answer that makes sense to me.

Nothing is stopping him from fixing the mess without Tweeting sub-retarded things every day. Nothing stopped him during his first term either.

It’s kind of unavoidable to some extent. When the POTUS walks around saying deranged things like it’s illegal to protest Tesla or he wants Canada to be the 51st state, what are people supposed to do, ignore it?

Either the man is pure trolling or he’s mentally unwell, or both.

Trump doesn't say "deranged things". He says things to the deranged Democrats. He is single-handedly making them all act like fools. And people are sick of them.

The Democratic party is in shambles because Trump has exposed them all for the frauds they are. Good for him. He's got four years left. I'm all in.

The tariffs seem like a bad idea on the surface.   The economy is slowing down, too quickly.   The Ukraine issue.

I do not regret my vote for Trump.  No way I could vote for Kamala.   But I can't sit here and tell you I am confident all that is happening right now gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.  It's early, time will tell, but yeah, I'm a bit nervous.

To me, the tariffs are less concerning than some of the other things going on. If Trump holds true to form and the tariffs fail miserably, the outcry will probably get him to reverse the decision, especially if he's getting an earful from Wall St. It will take a lot longer for the fallout and public outcry to surface in the wake of many of his other actions, especially from his voters. By that time, too much damage may have been done to easily reverse.

Can't disagree with you @supermike80, and not just on the Tariffs.  We'll see what happens, and no way I would have voted for Kamalatoe, but if only for the border issue there was no way I could vote for anyone other than Trump.

I opened this thread because I searched for Springfield(I was going to make a joke about how we might all be eating dogs soon)...saw these first three posts - seemed a good time to revisit.

I really like that Strike agrees with the OP about tariffs being a bad idea, but yesterday kept posting how the tariffs were "winning".   Says a lot about Strike.

You're gonna have to show your work, bud.  Don't become like @TimHauck trying for gotchas all over the place, especially when you can't back it up.  I looked through the last two days of posts in the "Liberation" thread and the only time I used the word winning was regarding an auto manufacturer increasing production in the U.S. due to Trump's tariffs.   And no, I wasn't running all over the place even implying it.  I wasn't going chicken little either.  Apparently to you unless I'm condemning them in no uncertain terms I'm shouting "Winning" from rooftops.   And if you are gonna call someone out at least have the courtesy to put @ and their name so they are notified that you're posting about them.

You guys are trying to make yourselves feel better with “I could never have voted for Kamala” nonsense. Here’s why it’s nonsense:

1. Trump’s tariffs are either going to severely harm our economy or destroy our economy. Those are your two options. There’s nothing else. Don’t take my word for it; listen to the economists.

2. Kamala Harris wouldn’t have done this. And that’s all there is to it. No matter how much you might have disliked her other policies, or her personally, none of that is at all important compared to this issue. So yeah, sorry, you guys are going to regret your vote. You blew it.

Nothing to see hear, nosirree. Move along.

An order by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office resulted in a purge of books critical of racism but preserved volumes defending white power.

Excerpts below

Quote

Gone is “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” Maya Angelou’s transformative best-selling 1970 memoir chronicling her struggles with racism and trauma.

Two copies of “Mein Kampf” by Adolf Hitler are still on the shelves.

Gone is “Memorializing the Holocaust,” Janet Jacobs’s 2010 examination of how female victims of the Holocaust have been portrayed and remembered.

“The Camp of the Saints” by Jean Raspail is still on the shelves. The 1973 novel, which envisions a takeover of the Western world by immigrants from developing countries, has been embraced by white supremacists and promoted by Stephen Miller, a senior White House adviser.

The Bell Curve,” which argues that Black men and women are genetically less intelligent than white people, is still there. But a critique of the book was pulled.

The Trump administration’s decision to order the banning of certain books from the U.S. Naval Academy’s library is a case study in ideological censorship, alumni and academics say.

Officials began pulling books off the library’s shelves the evening of March 31 and completed the purge the next morning, before the defense secretary visited that day.

The actions have caused a stir among some of the school’s alumni, who include four-star admirals and generals as well as other high-ranking government and elected officials.

“The Pentagon might have an argument — if midshipmen were being forced to read these 400 books,” said Adm. James G. Stavridis, an author, academy alumnus and former commander of all U.S. forces in Europe. “But as I understand it, they were just among the hundreds of thousands of books in the Nimitz Library which a student might opt to check out. What are we afraid of keeping from them in the library?”

One of the admiral’s recent books specifically cited Ms. Angelou’s memoir as a valuable resource for helping military leaders understand the diversity of viewpoints that make up the armed forces.

“Book banning can be a canary in a coal mine and could predict a stifling of free speech and thought,” he added. “Books that challenge us make us stronger. We need officers who are educated, not indoctrinated.”

The purge at the library is extremely rare and possibly unprecedented at an institute of higher education, said Philomena Polefrone of American Booksellers for Free Expression, a group representing independent booksellers.

“Most of these books are not about D.E.I.,” she said, referring to diversity, equity and inclusion. “They’re by or about L.G.B.T.Q.+ people, or Black people, or anyone who is not a white, cisgender, heterosexual man.”
