Ron_Artest 1,177 Posted May 11 A New York state official is facing multiple charges after authorities say he shot a lost DoorDash delivery driver on May 2, authorities announced. Officials arrested John J. Reilly III, a 48-year-old licensed firearm dealer and a highway superintendent for the town of Chester, part of Orange County, said the New York State Police in a news release. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2025/05/06/doordash-delivery-driver-shooting-new-york/83471142007/ A story all too familiar these days. It's gotten dangerous to approach a strangers house these days. My bet is on the kid being black and the perp being maga.

I don’t think you’ll find many people that side with the home owner here, but do you really want to go down this road?
TimHauck 2,649 Posted May 11 Shoots him as he’s driving away https://x.com/Breaking911/status/1920552060606435411 Here is the DoorDash driver knocking on a different door. Not black, but apparently not a Native English speaker. It does seem dumb that as a Door Dash driver he wouldn’t have a phone charger and I could see someone thinking him saying “I need help” isn’t true, but you still don’t shoot the guy especially as he’s driving away https://x.com/BlaiseGomez12/status/1919469643204333661
Ron_Artest 1,177 Posted May 11 The driver is a migrant from West Africa, student studying English. At least the shooter was arrested. Should probably be charged with attempted murder. No word yet on how many millions he's raised on GoFundMe.

Frozenbeernuts 2,184 Posted May 11 If by a story that's all too familiar, you mean people attacking each other in general, I agree. Your attempt to stoke the flames of a race war won't be successful.
TBayXXXVII 2,499 Posted May 11 "Reilly was charged with three felonies, including assault in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and criminal possession of a firearm" Underlined seems odd. I find it hard to believe that a licensed firearms dealer would be in "criminal possession of a firearm".

Either way, there's no need to shoot at anyone who rings your doorbell when they're unarmed. I'm fine with whatever they sentence him to. Fock'em.

Well, that’s what the media does to determine if it’s a story worth covering or how they’re going to label the suspects and victims.

Criminal possession of a firearm just means he had the firearm illegal; maybe he didn't own/register it in his name, or could be a weapon that was outlawed by that state - this includes the size of the magazine if there was one. As a dealer he should know bout local laws, but then also probably has items that are against the law or thinks laws don't apply to him.

Or you punch a guy cause you're angry he took your parking spot and he falls and hits his head and dies because of it. "intentional taking of a life without premeditation OR the intentional infliction of serious bodily harm that results in death."

First degree is usually premeditated when it comes to intent.
