Lost doordash driver shot by homeowner

A New York state official is facing multiple charges after authorities say he shot a lost DoorDash delivery driver on May 2, authorities announced.

Officials arrested John J. Reilly III, a 48-year-old licensed firearm dealer and a highway superintendent for the town of Chester, part of Orange County, said the New York State Police in a news release.

Here is the DoorDash driver knocking on a different door.  Not black, but apparently not a Native English speaker.  It does seem dumb that as a Door Dash driver he wouldn’t have a phone charger and I could see someone thinking him saying “I need help” isn’t true, but you still don’t shoot the guy especially as he’s driving away

The driver is a migrant from West Africa, student studying English.

At least the shooter was arrested.  Should probably be charged with attempted murder.

No word yet on how many millions he's raised on GoFundMe.

Underlined seems odd.  I find it hard to believe that a licensed firearms dealer would be in "criminal possession of a firearm".

2nd degree is having a loaded weapon with the intent to use it unlawfully. Criminal possession of a firearm just means he had the firearm illegal; maybe he didn't own/register it in his name, or could be a weapon that was outlawed by that state - this includes the size of the magazine if there was one. 

As a dealer he should know bout local laws, but then also probably has items that are against the law or thinks laws don't apply to him.

I don't Door Dash much, but my most common place is a local sushi restaurant.  Usually I have combos of cold (sashimi) and warm (edamame, some rolls) items.  It makes it difficult to judge the driver's performance on a hot/cold criteria scale.

 

 

That's why I just shoot them regardless.
