The move follows weeks of increased enforcement since Stephen Miller, White House deputy chief of staff and main architect of Trump’s immigration policies, said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers would target at least 3,000 arrests a day, up from about 650 a day during the first five months of Trump’s second term.

Tatum King, an official with ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations unit, wrote regional leaders on Thursday to halt investigations of the agricultural industry, including meatpackers, restaurants and hotels, according to The New York Times.

A U.S. official who was not authorized to comment publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed to The Associated Press the contents of the directive. The Homeland Security Department did not dispute it.

This is what I always expected to happen at some point.  He still needs to have ICE root out the ones who are guilty of other crimes.

No. The part with removing ag workers and meat packing workers, hotel and restaurant workers, if it's going to shut down many companies in these industries all at once, that would be harmful to the country. You're question is very broad. I think deportations are necessary and of course stopping the influx at the border which has already been done and is being maintained.

Trump realizes the MAGA crowd didn't expect the consequences of this would be no avocados or other produce at the market because he arrested all the migrants who picked it (and those that didn't were afraid to show up for work).

Though, it's tough, since every non-MAGA that's paying attention has been shouting about this exact consequence since he started deporting every brown person in sight, many of which were here legally. So, applause to Trump for for TACO'ing. I look forward to much more of it.

After her performance Hernández posted a video to TikTok, with the caption “Watch the Dodgers tell me I can’t sing the Spanish Star Spangled Banner that Roosevelt literally commissioned in 1945 – so I did it anyway.” The video shows an apparent conversation with the Dodgers staff member. “We are going to do the song in English today, so I don’t know if that wasn’t translated – er, communicated,” the employee says. 

However, Hernández went on to sing El Pendón Estrellado, which the US government commissioned as the Spanish version of the Star-Spangled Banner in 1945. She explained her decision in another social media video. 

“I didn’t think I would be met with any sort of ‘No,’ especially because we’re in LA with everything happening,” said Hernández whose parents are from the Dominican Republic. “I’ve sang the national anthem many times in my life, but today I could not. I’m sorry ... I just could not believe, when she walked in and told me ‘No,’ but I just felt like I needed to do it, para mi gente [for my people].

“My parents are immigrants. They’ve been citizens my whole life at this point, they got documented really early, but I just can’t imagine them being ripped away from me, even at this age, let alone a little kid. Like, what are we doing?”

The Dodgers have yet to comment on the incident but The Athletic reports the club did not punish her for her decision.
