HTH 95 Posted July 3 Right now I'm debating between Born on the 4th of July and Platoon. Any other Recs?
BeenHereBefore 1,524 Posted July 3 Go with Platoon it's the best! We Were Soldiers, Full Metal Jacket, Saving Private Ryan are also good re-watches. Also Uncommon Valor and Southern Comfort are great as well.

Sandy Loam 109 Posted July 4 The new "All Quiet on the Western Front" kicks ass. Two relatively obscure war movies that are great are: "When Trumpets Fade," about the Battle of Hurtgen Forest, which got overshadowed by the Battle of the Bulge. "The Lost Patrol," awesome World War I flick. A Vietnam vet once told me the most realistic movie about that war is "Hamburger Hill." Â

I find Platoon in particular to be one of the toughest movies to watch.

Fnord 2,272 Posted July 4 The Longest Day. Maybe the greatest war movie ever and rarely gets mentioned as such. Kids and I are gonna watch Miracle later today to get some patriotic juices flowing.

jerryskids 6,799 Posted July 8 Wife and I watched Maverick over the weekend. It was so perfectly shmalzy and a ripoff of the original movie, so it was a perfect 'Murca! film.  Also, oddly predictive of recent events.
