What's with all the conservatives cancelling people?

Recommended Posts

The rights we have been granted come with responsibility.  It used to be that we were "corrected" in our youth for not being responsible with those rights.  Over the last 50 years we have seen a deterioration in respecting that responsibility.  We shouldn't have to police such things.  It's like respecting your elders.  I was taught that but kids nowadays are not.  I don't know what the answer is.  I'm not a fan of "cancel culture" but I also don't want to work with someone who would post gleefully about someone, ANYONE, being assassinated.  So those of you opposed to this, what do you propose we do so we don't have to police it?

free speech and hate speech are two different things.

"Hate speech" isn't real and a trick developed by the liberals to silence speech.

Speech is speech.

"Hate crimes' designation is the dumbest thing this country has ever accepted into some sort of twisted reality. Hate speech? Who focking cares?

Erik Travis, a teacher at Fairfax HS  in Los Angeles has openly called for more violence.Sounds like he’s calling for genocide to me

Wow, he gets right to the point, doesn't even try to justify it by saying you'd kill Hitler if you had a chance, and righties have the same goals as Hitler.

Has CNN reported this yet?  If not, can't be true.

I can agree with this 100%. Starting to parce speech into different categories is where it gets tricky. Just like hate crimes.

In the UK if your speech hurts someone's feelings, it basically becomes hate speech. If you say you like ice cream, and it triggers a diabetic to become sad, in the slammer.

Leftists got a guy fired for cracking his knuckles.

WE ARE NOT THE SAME!

Trump and the right still joke about the pelosi attack.  Trump and the right joke about Jan 6 being a selfie fest.  They joked about Josh Shapiro arson attempt, the Hortman assassination, the witmer kidnapping, etc.

No one was fired over their defense of any of this political violence.

People that live under the same roof have to have some core values. In this case, I believe that one of ours as a country would be that we do not celebrate the murder of innocent people. When Bin laden was killed, there was celebration, but he was not innocent. He was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans. Charlie Kirk never killed anyone or even came close. Celebrating the death of someone we disagree with, but is otherwise innocent really means you're too far gone and should no longer be in a position of influence over other people.

I don't have a problem with people disagreeing with Kirk, have at it, no one should lose their jobs over it (though, some have for agreeing with him).  I do think there's a difference between disagreeing with someone and cheering on their death.  Cheering for someone's death is essentially carrying on the violent rhetoric that everyone says should stop.  If you just say, "violent rhetoric should stop", but no one does, what's the point in saying it?

I'll say it: VIOLENT RHETORIC SHOULD STOP.

Zero issues with a company firing someone based on something heinous they said online, regardless of subject matter. Those companies have every right to do so.

Now, if a rank-and-file government worker was fired for something similar, that would be a big problem.

It's still true: you have the freedom to say whatever stupid, twisted, hateful bullshit you want. And everyone else has the same freedom to call you out for acting like a POS.

I take issue with health care workers and educators who wish death or cheer the death of someone.

If I go into the hospital with a critical injury and they find out who I voted for, are they going to refuse me treatment? "They supported Trump, sorry no life saving treatment for you."

If my son is in your class and you find out that his family supports a specific candidate; will my son be treated differently? "His dad is a Trump supporter; fail him on every test."

That's what those posts and vibes give off in my opinion. If you feel the need to shout it from the rooftops that you're glad Charlie is dead, don't do it on your social media account, IMO. You're still a reflection of that career choice or company that you work for.
