During the McCarthy era, the problem wasn’t with Hollywood studios deciding on their own to have a blacklist against Communists- they were private companies and that was their right and in fact it was good business. The problem was the FBI was involved putting pressure on the studios to fire certain people. That’s why it was wrong. Government shouldn’t be playing a part in this stuff. When it does freedom of speech really IS threatened.
