Three hours to get through security. Reducing flights by 10 percent

Great job, Trump.

Stocking up now on popcorn for the Midterms.

Yes that sure sounds like a winning strategy, from my NYT email update:

Trump Officials to Cut Air Traffic in 40 Major Markets if Shutdown Continues

The plan, which officials said was intended to help air traffic controllers, would force the cancellation of thousands of flights as the administration seeks to pressure Democrats to end the shutdown.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Why not just pass the CR?  But I'm pretty sure that the Dems will cave in the next few days.  Once the election is over they won't need to hold this over our heads any more.  I mean, we all know this is just a political ploy.  A disgusting one but one nevertheless.

Wait, I was told the public knows the shutdown is the Democrats’ fault?  That certainly shouldn’t have helped them in any elections if so

3/4 of Americans are in favor of extending the subsidies.  More Americans blame Trump than Democrats.  This is a losing game for Republicans.

3/4 of americans are dumb as rocks. But the subsidies being extended has always been inevitable. I stated on here a long time ago the inevitable compromise will be the subsidies get renewed, nothing from the OBB gets reversed and we move on.

These subsidies are one of the worst policy decisions ever, but as always, once we give out money for something, we dont like to stop, no matter how damaging it is to the long term market.

A shutdown falls on the president's lack of leadership. He can't even control his own party and to get people together in a room. A shutdown means the president is weak.

A rare moment of agreement with Mr. Utah. Though I would argue our insistence to continually bail out huge corporations, farmers, banks, and billionaires are far more egregious wastes of money.

“Extending the enhanced premium tax credits would add about $23 billion to the federal deficit in 2026, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).”

Trump wants to give $40 billion to the Argentina dictator who kisses his ass. But we don’t have $23 billion to help cover 10 million Americans with health insurance? And we’re shutting down the economy over it? GTFO with that BS. Trump could open the government in 24 hours if he agrees to extend the subsidies, which a MAGA guy says is the inevitable outcome anyway.

So explain how this isn’t Trump’s fault? Any American with two brain cells who isn’t in a cult knows this.

Trump: I'm cancelling your flight until you give in and give up your healthcare.

Great message to America.

Transportation secretary Sean Duffy, famous from MTV road rules and married to Fox News host, cancels flights for Americans today but is also flying to Wisconsin to raise money for his son in law's congressional campaign.

Rules for thee not for me.

It is Trump's decision to do this but he says that Democrats are to blame for the flight cancellations?

Yes, it's what abusers do.  They blame their victims for their abusive behavior.

People complaining about flights being cancelled want planes to crash to score political points. Flights are cancelled for safety. The President can’t end the shutdown. Republicans can’t end the shutdown.

60 votes are required in the senate to end the filibuster

There are 53 R’s.

oh shut up.  Nobody wants planes to crash, stop it.  I'm all for safety but I don't believe this is being done for safety.  I believe it's just another punishment by the president so he can blame democrats.  Same with choosing to end SNAP.

The president can end this shutdown today.  Get everyone in a room, work out a deal.  It's what strong leaders do.  He refuses.

Also you're wrong on the filibuster, a simple majority ends the filibuster.  They just refuse to listen to Trump and do it.

Less air traffic controllers means less flights . Happy to help.

  • Forced to work without pay: Nearly 13,000 air traffic controllers have been working without pay since the shutdown began.
  • Increased stress and fatigue: The stress of the job is amplified by not being paid, causing controllers to become fatigued and even physically ill.
  • Need for second jobs: Some controllers are taking time off to work second jobs to earn money.
  • "Sick outs": These factors have resulted in an increase in unscheduled absences and "sick outs," where controllers call in sick.
  • Flight disruptions: The unscheduled absences have led to staffing shortages and flight delays, prompting the FAA to reduce air traffic by 10% at some airports to ensure safety.

Have the air traffic controllers refused to work? Are they on strike until the shutdown ends? Or were they ordered not to work?

Yes, and we've seen flight delays and cancellations already.  What was significant about announcing a 10% cut today?  Did a bunch of ATC announce they will be out today going forward?  No.

Ordered not to work? You can’t be serious. No one is messing with the OIG. Of course people are calling in sick. Big mistake not including these people getting paid during the shutdown. Why do you think the USPS is paid

It was the Trump administration decision to shut down flights. They weren’t forced to do it. And they’re targeting flights in Democratic cities.

It’s crazy people don’t think there are people on both sides who like/hate Trump in the OIG . Clueless to what real life is like. Step away from the internet

That doesn't mean that they told ATC to stay home does it?  My understanding is that they just cut the flights but it's independent of ATC schedules.  They still want the ATCs to show up whenever they can, but some aren't.

House is set to reconvene today at 2pm.  I'm guessing the Senate has negotiated a deal for the House to consider that would fund the government into January.  But that's just a guess.

It's my Congressman's birfday so I texted him happy birfday and he texted me back thanks cmh
