Voltaire 5,470 Posted 23 hours ago The GOP had the votes to lockthe Democrats completely out out of the budget process, but to do so, they had negotiate closely to get nearly everyone on board and it took a massive amount of arm twisting to get those votes for the Big Beautiful Bill across the finish line. The Dems couldn't stop them then, but they can here since they will need Dem votes to fund the government. Previously, this funding the government maneuver has always been used by budget hawks to wrest a concession or two out of the bloated budget, before getting beaten to a pulp by the overwhelming and bipartisan "I don't give a fock" contingent. In this instance, the Dems, generally the party of big government, are using it to try to blow up the deficit instead. I don't much care if illegal immigrants or work-averse societal freeloading leeches like GFIAFP are stripped of their taxpayer subsidized health care, but I would like to see SNAP funded, government offices opened, and the people who work there to get paid. These are fair and traditional debates from back in the day, when both/either party was worth voting for when the other one in charge went off the deep end and we'd need the other to rein it in. I despise the Democratic Party and recognize then as vile, evil human scum turds that have been spawned directly from Satan's colon for other reasons. The Big Pitiful Bill did way more to blow up the deficit than any legislation since Trump’s first term tax cuts. Billionaires keep getting richer, the rest of us get poorer, and the GOP are accelerating the process. GOP is pinching pennies with working class benefits while handing out trillions to the richest people. This is class warfare, and 77 million in the losing class voted for their wealthy conquerors. Truly an idiotic bunch of people.

The Real timschochet 7,395 Posted 5 hours ago Normally this is the time (it’s way past time actually) that a normal President calls a meeting with the leaders on both sides in the Oval, and a deal is quickly hammered out. This is the way every past shutdown has ended.

thegeneral 3,569 Posted 5 hours ago Unfortunately at this point it is about winning public opinion. Both sides have their issue they are dug in on and will tell you with absolute conviction they are right, why they let this happen, etc. When people with nothing are about to lose their 150 a month for food or whatever it’s in poor taste for the Prez, the one who this all is on paraphrasing his own words, to post about his new bathroom tile like he’s a home improvement game show. It's actually not his job. You might think so because congress has ceded so much power to the Executive branch over the last 40 years. I've been harping on that for literally decades. But you might not be aware but budgeting and appropriations are the job of congress, not the President. There's a reason our forefathers created a system of government that has 3 distinct branches. HTH.

HTH. Your argument might have some validity in theory but in practice it’s his job. It’s been the President’s job pretty much since FDR. I would also add that every modern President when they run for office, including this one, makes all kinds of campaign promises based on the implication that they are in fact responsible for the actions of Congress and all of federal government. So then you would agree with me that the president cannot cancel congressional appropriated funding like he has, correct? You walked right into that one, dummy. So of course it's not the presidents job to pass a budget, but whose job is it to ensure the govt stays open, to bring both sides together to forge a compromise? You might not believe this but most people agree it starts and ends at the top.
