Trump calls for Democratic lawmakers to face trial for ‘seditious behavior’

President Donald Trump on Thursday called for six Democratic lawmakers to face arrest and trial after they made a video encouraging U.S. service members and members of the intelligence community to refrain from following orders if they broke the law.

“It’s called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL,” Trump charged in a post on Truth Social. “Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL. Their words cannot be allowed to stand - We won’t have a Country anymore!!! An example MUST BE SET.”

The president then reposted 16 Truth Social posts, including one that advocated for hanging the Democrats, like “GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD.”

“SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” he later wrote.

Sens. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) and Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), as well as Reps. Jason Crow (D-Colo.), Chrissy Houlahan (D-Penn.), Maggie Goodlander (D-N.H.) and Chris Deluzio (D-Penn.) were featured in the Tuesday video. They are all either military veterans or worked in national security-focused roles before taking office.

“We know you are under enormous stress and pressure right now,” they said. “Americans trust their military. But that trust is at risk. This administration is pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals against American citizens. Like us, you all swore an oath to protect and defend this Constitution. Right now, the threats to our constitution aren’t just coming from abroad, but from right here at home. Our laws are clear, you can refuse illegal orders.”

In a joint statement Thursday, House Democratic leadership condemned Trump’s “disgusting and dangerous death threats” and called for him to delete the posts, urging their Republican colleagues to say the same.

The statement — co-signed by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Minority Whip Katherine Clark and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar — said House leadership had been in contact with the House sergeant at arms and the United States Capitol Police to “ensure the safety” of the members mentioned in Trump’s posts.

“Donald Trump incited a violent attack on the Capitol on January 6th as part of a treacherous attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election,” they wrote. “The President’s violent and unhinged rhetoric against American patriots is consistent with his well-documented history of attacking prisoners of war, Gold Star families and war heroes. There is no bottom when it comes to Donald Trump.”

What was the old Trump quote? "Second amendment solutions?" If anyone should be facing a firing squad for sedition and treason, it's him.

Democratic Senator Drops F-Bomb In Fiery Response To Trump’s ‘HANG THEM’ Attack

President Donald Trump’s shocking call Thursday for members of Congress to be executed was met with immediate, and explicit, pushback from Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), who sounded the horn for every “person of influence” to repudiate the president’s call for violence.

“The president of the United States just called for members of Congress to be executed,” Murphy said in a fiery video statement. “If you are a person of influence in this country, maybe it’s time to pick a f**king side.”

“If you are a Republican in Congress, if you are a Republican governor, maybe it’s time to draw a line in the sand and say that under no circumstances should the president of the United States be calling on his political opposition to be hanged.”

“We are at a very dangerous moment right now,” Murphy said in closing. “The president is engaged in the wholesale incitement, endorsement and rationalization of political violence in this country.

“This is a moment for people to step up, for Republicans to step up, for business leaders to step up. Anybody who has a voice or a soapbox in this country needs to draw a line in the sand and say that it is not acceptable for the president of the United States to call on the murder of his political opposition.”

I'm surprised Mark Kelly participated in that seditious-ish video.  We are a purple border state which has tried in the past to enforce deportation when Dem admins weren't doing their job.

It doesn't seem like it would help him as much as hurt him.  Although, his reelection isn't until 11/28, so maybe he doesn't care.  :dunno:

Dangerous rhetoric from the cult leader. Violence is a tool Trump uses when it suits him. He’s too cowardly to do anything himself, of course. A deranged MAGA follower does it instead, like the one who murdered the Minnesota politicians recently.

You mean the No Kings Assassin?  Not sure how you can blame Trump for someone funded by Riot Inc.  Trump is a man of peace

The dangerous and cowardly rhetoric is coming from Democrats trying to get young soldiers court martialed.

A updated summary from Grok for those just joining this thread;

Trump Accuses Democratic Veterans of Treason Over Video Urging Troops to Obey Constitution
Last updated 16 minutes ago

The video, led by Sen. Elissa Slotkin and featuring other veterans like Sen. Mark Kelly, stresses the military oath to the Constitution over any person, aligning with U.S. military rules against illegal orders. Trump posted on Truth Social demanding their trial for 'seditious conspiracy,' reposting calls to 'hang them' and warning it threatens the country. Democrats condemned the threats as calls for violence, with leaders like Schumer and Jeffries denouncing them, while Republicans stayed mostly silent and security was boosted for the lawmakers.

This story is a summary of posts on X and may evolve over time. Grok can make mistakes, verify its outputs.

And wanting them executed for advocating that members of the military obey the military oath to the Constitution. This is crazy.

Yeah, post some other fake news to try to deflect from Trump's appalling remarks.

AI Overview:

It has been alleged by a White House official that former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger was active on the gay dating app Grindr, but there is no confirmed evidence that the images shared online are authentic or that he posted them himself.

How is a video reinforcing to armed service members that based on military codes of conduct, and the oath they swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States they are OBLIGATED to refuse ILLEGAL orders "seditious-ish?" The video was not telling them to disobey orders. It was reminding them of what they already should know.

Asking you because you aren't hallucinating on the red kool-aid. Or at least you haven't historically.

Trump doesn’t make illegal orders to the military. Dems siding with telling service members to ignore orders from the commander to n chief are advocating treason.

I think we must be up like 40 incidents where even one would’ve prompted discussion of any other President being impeached. Seriously the politicians he reminds me most of are Marion Barry, Rob Ford, & Huey Long. First 2 were on crack, last one just wanted to be a dictator.

Barry’s believers couldn’t be dissuaded from supporting him until the video of him smoking the pipe came out, even then many stood by him.

Well, you don't make that video unless you believe that armed service members ARE being given illegal orders.  Is that your point (that they have been given such orders), or are you arguing that by stopping short of flat out saying it, they haven't said anything that can be considered seditious?

Bombing innocent fishermen in the Caribbean is illegal. Breaking the posse comitatus act is illegal.

One has already happened, the second hasn’t… yet. But when troops are deployed in their own country, they are at a FAR higher risk of engaging in illegal law enforcement activities.

Putting that aside, in this reply we see a very poor assumption. We have training in many jobs about what NOT to do. That doesn’t imply that we are all being pressured to do those things. The boss doesn’t think everybody is suicidal when they give suicide prevention training.

Telling people their rights and obligations under the law is not sedition. How many times did we see right-wingers reminding people of their second amendment rights (come and take it!) when a Democrat was in the White House? Was that sedition?

Military members get UCMJ training regularly. These members of Congress aren’t saying anything that isn’t already taught to military members. So is the entire military seditious?

People that supposedly believe in free speech want to KILL American citizens for simply speaking honestly about what the law is regarding lawful orders in the military. They might think such threats make them seem tough. Far from it; it shows how weak and pathetic they are.

I should state that I certainly disagree with implications by Trump that congresspeople could be facing the death penalty for making this video.  We all know that it would never happen, but it's one of the many unpresidential things he says.  Actually, we probably don't all know it.  This seems like one of those things where Lefties decide that Trump is coherent, not lying, and honestly plans to try to kill them.

The two options you’re offering here are:

1. Trump is incoherent

2. Trump is coherent and wants to murder Democratic politicians

Both are disqualifying for the office held by this man.
