"Invasion" seems Rusty-level stupid; I'm guessing it's him.

Greenland is a very strategic piece of real estate in the battle for Arctic military and shipping control.  Since we are essentially NATO while the UK and others continue their path to voluntary Islamicized destruction, we need much more control there.  Whether or not it means controlling the entire island (is it considered an island?), I don't know.

I mean, if y'all wanna characterize illegal immigrants as an invasion, then this doesn't seem like a stretch in the least.

Also, how is it that Greenland somehow became this strategically important only after Trump was elected? Has every US POTUS since WW2 just been strategically ignorant, but the Don, being the brilliant bastard he is, somehow realized the value when none of his predecessors could? And how does it benefit the US if seizing Greenland essentially blows NATO to dust? Because it sure seems like that would be the result.

How do you know other presidents didn't see the strategic value?

I have heard speculation that Trump is strengthening our control in the NA region, because Europe is on a path to destruction via radical Islamic control.  You can argue that they'll probably wake up before they reach their goal, but they are certainly moving down that path.  So he's preparing us to hunker down if we need to.  That explains our recent actions in Venezuela, and soon (I predict) Cuba will fall, with or without our military help.

He's putting it out there that he might use military force.  He's shown, recently in fact, that he's not afraid to do so, so it is a credible threat.  I expect that he hopes that this will initiate talks which otherwise might not have happened.

So you're willing to admit that there is a possibility that he invades Greenland.  And I assume you would not support that?

He has a history of making empty threats, but he's also becoming more and more degraded and psychotic so I'm not convinced this is just another empty threat. I will be very happy if he doesn't invade.

We need to start taking him at his word but then be relieved when he does show himself to be a blowhard.

So the party of America First, isolationism, no foreign wars and no nation building now believes in old-school imperialism because Daddy tells them that it is in our country's bestest strategic and security interests, even though what it's really about is natural resources.

That hasn't worked out so well in the past, because other nations respond to that, and we have little dustups such as World War I.

This act would be America First and preparing for isolationism.  Personally, I don't believe in isolationism as a proactive strategy, but in this case it is a contingency plan.  And I already said I don't think we will invade Greenland, and would oppose if we did.  Nation building?  Are you just shotgun blasting now?

I am categorically opposed to acquiring Greenland by force.  I can support acquiring it by negotiation.  It's importance today, as opposed to two and three generations ago has to do with expanding exploitation of artic lands for oil reserves and rare earth minerals.  As Artic traffic increases, as rare earth minerals become more important to emerging industries its importance has grown.  Of course the new economic realities make it equally important to Denmark.  Its theirs and it is reasonable for them to want to exploit it just as we want to.    It all reminds me of Rocket at the end of the first Guardians of the Galaxy when he is asking about crimes.  He explains that he gets to take something from the rightful owner because in his mind he wants it more than do they.  Trump = Rocket.
