Defense of Greenland: Agreement Between the United States and the Kingdom of Denmark, April 27, 1951

The Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark, being parties to the North Atlantic Treaty signed at Washington on April 4, 1949 having regard to their responsibilities thereunder for the defense of the North Atlantic Treaty area, desiring to contribute to such defense and thereby to their own defense in accordance with the principles of self-help and mutual aid, and having been requested by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to negotiate arrangements under which armed forces of the parties to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization may make use of facilities in Greenland in defense of Greenland and the rest of the North Atlantic Treaty area, have entered into an Agreement for the benefit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in terms as set forth below:

Article I.

The Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark, in order to promote stability and well-being in the North Atlantic Treaty area by uniting their efforts for collective defense and for the preservation of peace and security and for the development of their collective capacity to resist armed attack, will each take such measures as are necessary or appropriate to carry out expeditiously their respective and joint responsibilities in Greenland, in accordance with NATO plans.

Article II.

In order that the Government of the United States of America as a party to the North Atlantic Treaty may assist the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark by establishing and/or operating such defense areas as the two Governments, on the basis of NATO defense plans, may from time to time agree to be necessary for the development of the defense of Greenland and the rest of the North Atlantic Treaty area, and which the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark is unable to establish and operate singlehanded, the two Governments in respect of the defense areas thus selected, agree to the following:

The need it for strategic purposes is so absurd, since we can pretty much build as many bases as the US feel is necessary.

Thanks for the info.  I think it's a little more complicated than that.  For instance, as part of the agreement you linked, Denmark took control of Gronnedal:

Quote

Article III.

(1) The operation of the United States naval station at Gronnedal will be transferred to the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark as soon as practicable and thereupon the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark will take over the utilization of the United States installations at Gronnedal on the following terms.

While no longer in use, in 2016 Denmark considered selling Gronnedal to... wait for it... China:

Quote
COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Denmark decided to turn down an offer last year from Chinese mining company General Nice Group to buy an abandoned naval base on Greenland due to security concerns, sources involved in the decision said.
Danish politicians did not want to jeopardise their country's relationship with the United States, Copenhagen's main ally, by granting another power a potentially military foothold in Greenland, the sources told Reuters.

They didn't do it, but they could have.  Because at the end of the day, Greenland belongs to Denmark.

How do we “invade” when we already have out largest Space Base located there with 150 soldiers and about the same number of “contractors “ 😉 . If we did want to do it the hard way it wouldn’t be hard

This is nothing new, we have been trying to get Greenland forever.

I'm 100% for it, it's almost at the point to where we need to have it to ensure security of our Nation and neighbors.

Fuk NATO, we are NATO.

There are penguins living in the northern hemisphere.

But if you want to go there, let's go with glaciers.

Penguins are exclusively Southern Hemisphere animals, but the Galápagos penguin lives right on the equator. There are no wild penguins in the Arctic because their evolutionary path led them to the South, where there are fewer land predators like polar bears, who rule the Arctic.

Figured I'd put this here.  For those who scoffed at me regarding the Islamification of Europe:  They UAE will no longer sponsor its students to study in the UK, for fear of them being indoctrinated into radical Islam.

Middle Eastern country stops sponsoring students studying in Britain over fear of radicalization: report

UAE reportedly fears students could be indoctrinated by Muslim Brotherhood, which country labeled as terror group

A Muslim-majority country in the Middle East will no longer sponsor students seeking to study abroad in Britain, claiming that it fears students will become radicalized.

The United Arab Emirates believes that its students in Britain could be subject to indoctrination and radicalization by the Muslim Brotherhood, according to London-based news outlet The Times.

In the UAE and several other Middle Eastern countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, the Muslim Brotherhood has been designated as a terror organization.

Some Central Asian countries have also given it that designation. In Texas and Florida, the Muslim Brotherhood has been labeled a terror group, though the federal government has not labeled it as such.

The Emirati Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs offer funding to cover "tuition, living stipends, travel and health insurance for top-performing students who are pursuing degrees in priority fields," according to the report.

It will still offer its robust state-sponsored study abroad program for students who wish to study in other countries.

The country has not completely banned studying in Britain, according to the report, but those who wish to do so will have to pay their own way.

The UAE has battled against the Muslim Brotherhood across the Middle East for years. In 2013, it backed Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who overthrew a Muslim Brotherhood-linked regime, according to Reuters.

It has also worked with proxies to undermine the Muslim Brotherhood in Yemen and the African countries of Chad and Sudan.

In 2015, an inquiry by the British government determined that the Islamist group is contrary to British values and that membership in the group could be a sign of extremism. Still, the country did not designate it as a terror group.

Certain Muslim interest groups in the U.K., including the Muslim Association of Britain, the British Muslim Initiative and the Islamic Society of Britain have been suspected of being linked to Muslim Brotherhood ideology.

Brass balls on Denmark

“Denmark demands the USA protect the "territories of their kingdom" (their words) including Greenland, which they admit they "cannot do without the USA military."  However, they outright reject the notion the United States should gain something, anything, for providing that protection.“

How awesome is it for Putin that NATO is now focused on defending Greenland and not Ukraine as NATO forces are sent to Greenland to protect against US invasion.
