Frozenbeernuts 1,652 Posted July 5, 2018 While it's not guaranteed to work, I think short term pain for a potential long term gain is worth this risk. It's kind of like getting surgery. You don't avoid surgery because the recovery is painful. You get it and hope the surgery works, knowing the short term is going to suck a bit

Frozenbeernuts 1,652 Posted July 5, 2018 I have yet to see how this is benefiting us. I would hope That Trump wouldn't do this if there wasn't some type of benefit in the future. It does piss me off how he talks about American goods and Chinese tarrifs like he is above it all, when his own apparel is made in China. But whatever. Everyone is a hypocrite at some point
LOD01 191 Posted July 5, 2018 So far is being won bigly by Trump. HSI down bigly since Trump started ###### with them. US markets weathering the storm. We can find other suppliers, they can't find other buyers. They will crumble under the power of Trump. Look at that Nasdaq go as their index is in bear market territory. We are buying the dips and they are eating our SHlT.

You are never going to get instant results in the things Trump is trying. This, North Korea, the wall, lower taxes increasing GDP, etc. I have no idea if they will work and no one else does but it's a welcome change and as long as the markets go up, then his ideas are not bad. Just a disclaimer, as a reader of Avi Gilburt articles and 'Elliott Wave Theory', I'm watching and prepping for the 20-30% selloff he predicts will happen after we go past S&P 3000, sometime in 2019 or 2020. I will not be in the market when that happens.

From what I've been reading there have not been many positive results from the tariffs. More negatives than positives. Like you said, it's to soon to know what the long term results will be but I certainly don't see the possibilities yet. It's hard for me to trust the man and I find it troublesome that so many others seem to trust him blindly. I know many want some major changes but I hope they're not going to be ones we regret. Hawkeye21 1,853 Posted July 5, 2018 These tariffs have been going on for a whole 3 months and I see no results yet. Layoffs have already happened in some industries. Prices from my vendors have already increased. Availability of some products has been affected. People are losing money and are seeing prices rise on products they need. The 80 million Iranian citizens, over half of whom are under 30, have made it clear that they are fed up with fundamentalist rule. Their chants of "death to Khamenei," "death to Rouhani," "death to the dictator," "no Gaza, no Lebanon, my life for Iran, death to Hezbollah, leave Syria alone, think about us instead, death to the Islamic Republic and shame on you, mullahs," have clearly demonstrated their hatred for the current suppressive regime and their demand for change. tanatastic 2,061 Posted July 5, 2018 We will see, a lot of these take effect tonite at midnite. Lots of businesses and farmers dreading it and Im sure the crys of how great this will be in X years will fall of deaf ears. This could be the catalyst that turns the tide for 2020. Better hope these magic positives happen soon or every supporter who gets their business decimated by this will vote for anyone but him. titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted July 6, 2018 This is one trump policy I am firmly behind. Bring those chinks to heel. I think it could work. Their economy will blink first. The question is, is he willing to take the heat and backlash if there is some substantial labor pain along the way? He needs to offer them an out. Hes shown the stick. Show the carrot. Beijing is proud. They wont want to lose face by outright caving. He should propose some sort of US China trade deal that gets what we want and allows them to save face. cbfalcon 824 Posted July 6, 2018 What is it good for? Example.....when we are down $100 billion with a certain country and they get cute, don’t trade anymore, we win big. It’s easy!

tanatastic 2,061 Posted July 6, 2018 That is because Liberals only think short term and never look at long term problems or advantages. Why would businesses who are affected by this care about long term if they stand to take heavy losses short term? Im just looking to be educated on what the goals of this are, long or short term. Ok I see it now. Its to promote buying these materials domestic and promote growth here. cbfalcon 824 Posted July 6, 2018 That is because Liberals only think short term and never look at long term problems or advantages. Human nature dictates that people being directly affected by something tend to think short term, while those that aren't directly affected in any significant way are resolute in that we need to just focus on the long term. People are funny in that way.
