LIke your list, I'm a little more mainstrain in my tastes, so in no particular order Raimi, Leone(just pulled Once upon a Time in America off the shelf to watch again), Spielberg, Coppola, Fincher, Ridley Scott. Aronofsky, Nolan, Kubric, Scorsese, Burton, Tarantino and Eastwood. If I'm going older, Welles(love Touch of Evil, Kane and Ambersons), Hawks, Ford, & Hitchcock, Chaplin---Peckinpah just for The Wild Bunch.

I want to put James Cameron on the list, but he's already on my list of people I want to punch in the face, so... :dunno:

Always loved Spielberg and therefore Lean.

Capra

Scorcese

Mel Gibson

Welles

Ridley Scott

Oliver Stone made about 3 perfect films

Kubrick is too heavy handed for my taste.

Coen Brothers either big hit or big miss.

Curious as to what 3 perfect films you give Stone?

The Doors was right around the time I started getting sick of him, forgot about Wall Street though.

BOTFOJ was a very good film, but too long and too preachy at the end. NBK and JFK were terrible IMO.

That was on purpose. :)

Well then I disagree. To the Wonder did suck but otherwise his movies are fantastic

It's cool. He's definitely not a director who's for everybody.

Cannot believe nobody said Mel Brooks.

Other than Young Frankenstein I don't like his movies much.

Terry Gilliam was a really good call. Kind of surprised nobody named Woody Allen or Clint Eastwood.

Somebody named Eastwood. I'd include Woody Allen but the whole thing about him possibly being a pedo is a bit problematic

That and the fact that he is the most overrated filmmaker ever.

Yeah but we're talking real pedo, not jail bait pedo

No Polanski is real pedo too---drugging and raping a 13 year is pretty focking real.

I'm not a fan but he's made a bajillion movies and people seem to like him. His newer dramatic stuff is IMO a lot better than the old comedies he's mostly known for.

The first time I read this, I thought you were saying Clint was over-rated.

Huh, for some reason I had it in my head that she was 15 and it was consensual. Yeah that is pretty focking bad

Stop it, you're getting GFIAFP all hot and bothered

She was 13. I think that's 3-4 years past GFIAFP's sell by date.

I like Clint, although i get the rap that he is not a stickler for detail. He makes a good film for everyone. Woody makes films that about 50 people in NY like and because they do, lemmings follow.

Another Director not mentioned is Sydney Pollack. I really like his films. He tells a great story without a bunch of fluff. An actor's director.
