WSOP M.E. 2018 - FInal table bubble cooler of all time. Have to see to believe.

Recommended Posts

I really enjoy his meltdowns but it's stuff like this that make poker pure luck in big tourneys. This is all donk acion by someone that cant play so he goes all in and hopes.

After Daniel Negreanu bid farewell, Phil Hellmuth — AKA Thor — raised pre-flop with Ace-King offsuit and Jans Arends ended up raising all-in with Ace-9 of diamonds. Hellmuth — with 51,000 chips left called and started out a 67 percent favorite.

Jans Arends thinking: 'I don't want to try and beat this guy post flop so my best move is go all in with A-9 trash and hope I luck out.'

I watch a ton of poker on youtube. (I have a lot of time to kill at work. bet you didn't know that)

90% of Helmuth videos on YT are of his blowups.

90% of Daniel Negreanu is his incredible reading ability.

Helmuth is a master at poker, better than DN. but he's a class a d1nk

Without knowing the blinds, how much Hellmuth raised, etc, it may have been a good attempt to steal the pot from Arends, and it may have been a very tough call made by Hellmuth. :dunno:

I agree that there are a lot of bad moves made in these tournaments, but I think it's a bit arrogant for people like us to assume we wouldn't make the same bad moves. Hands are pretty simple when reading about them, knowing what both guys held, etc. I was a relatively solid player at one point, and I constantly made mistakes that seemed really obvious when I thought back on said hands after the fact.

It's not the bad moves for me as much as is it the 'well, I got A-9 and my best move is go all in pre flop and hope I have the best hand.' he only won because he went all in. he loses if he sees a flop and Hellmuth bets. 'All-in' pre flop takes any skill out of it.

My favorite Hellmuth meltdown because it has the bonus of Mike the Mouth at the table.

lol at all the rounders up in here acting like poker is all a game of skill.

The pure number of people who've come outta nowhere and cashed in these tournaments is proof positive that luck is still a major factor.

You must get the cards. No one can bluff their way thru 1000 or more players. You also have to win multiple coin tosses.

But let me ask you this.......if you are playing against Phil Hellmuth, isn't it smart to recognize that you aren't on his skill level overall, and that the more information available in any given hand simply serves to increase his edge on you? And the more hands played also serve to increase his edge?

If one admits this, then the best strategy is in fact to try and play the fewest amount of hands with the fewest amount of information available against him.

He was a major tool in that video. Thanks for sharing.

yep. Probably why this guy went all in but all it does is turn it into a game of showdown and who gets lucky. They don't do it just to him, they do it to each other.

How many hands are usually played by the finalists in these tourneys? Ive read that mathematically, it takes about 1000 hands before skill starts to overtake luck as the dominant factor.

Do they even play 1000 hands in the preliminary rounds against the same opppnents?

Probably pretty close. If you have the patience and the bankroll, why not take a shot?

Its too slow for me though to play though.

Even playing with friends, I hate folding hand after hand.

I preferred poker before hold em became so popular. Its all anyone wants to play now.

There are several poker games that are way more fun to play with friends.

Guts

5 card stud

7 card stud

Follow the b!tch

I have folded kings in tournaments before. If I was the 2nd guy with KKs, I know i would have folded.

No, my brother had a conference all this week there, he went early and played a Texas Holdem/Pot Limit Omaha event. I went out to root him on and I'd never been to Vegas. It was his second time playing WSOP events, 3rd event overall and his first cash. He got knocked out when he lost in Omaha when his AA got beat by KK. Pretty cool, cause I watched some of the Main Event live(we stayed at the RIO), but then we went to a room and watched it on 30 minute delay cause we wanted to see the hole cards.

Are they still playing the final table

I think they are still waiting for Cynn to call Miles All-In.

Bummer about losing AA. Seems like there are more outs for lesser hands in Omaha, but I'm nothing near an expert. I think I've played it once or twice in my life. :dunno:

I once saw 2 straight flushes in the same hand. 23 hearts 4 5 6 of hearts was the flop. someone had 78 of hearts. Sickest hand I have ever seen.

Omaha is my specialty, although I prefer 8 or better (or high-low)

basically in Omaha if there is a way to be beat, more than likely you are, if there is a pair on board there is a fullhouse, of there is 3 to a suit a flush is all but a guarantee, same with 3 to a straight

I flopped quad 9's once, got bet all in after the flop (9,9,5) by a pair of tens and lost to runner-runner tens. Sickest hand I have ever seen, especially being on the ass end of it.

I was in a tourney, and heads up. I had AK suited and raised. He called. Flop comes and I hit my flush. He goes all-in and of course I call. He had the straight flush. It was kind of funny.

I used to have a recurring poker dream in which my cards were directly in front of me face down, and I've got the nuts and get called all in. But when I look down to my cards, the muck has somehow gotten pushed towards me and I'm not sure which cards are mine and I don't know if they'll just trust me on what I have.

There is never any resolution that I recall.

my best Omaha story was when I first started playing I was around 18 at the casino, they had a bad beat jackpot which was quad 10's beaten.

so one hand I flop quad 10's with a flop K-10-10. What was my other 2 cards? KK, so the turn comes a K I am thinking I just hit the jackpot

I had quads over quads in my hand lol
