A great throw would have hit the shortstop and one-hopped to third if it wasn't cut off. A ball that sails all of the way to a base takes away that option and introduces the risk of it sailing over the glove of the receiver.

At the risk of going Al Bundy, I played outfield on an 18U all star team, and for the athletic powerhouse that is MIT. The proper throw is always a one-hopper. It gets there as fast if not faster, is easier to catch, opens up the cutoff option, and gives flexibility if the ball sails a bit. This is known.

Kopy 491 Posted March 21, 2019 Anyone who doesn't vote him first ballot should be banned. Although I said the same thing about Ken Griffey Jr, and I'm sure those @ssholes are still voting

The minor leagues are not the top league, like MLB and Japan... Rose has the most hits in MLB, Ichiro has the most hits at the top baseball professional level... tanatastic 2,061 Posted March 21, 2019 First ballot hof for sure but let’s stop this “including Japan hits” stuff. Let’s go ahead and count his little league and backyard with his friends hits while we’re at it too.
