Homer Mock Draft - ** DISCUSSION THREAD **

Just a heads up....I plan on retiring in 30 years or so.....therefore, if this goes three full rounds, I might need someone to fill in for my last pick. <_<

The Bears have pick #37 via the TJ trade.

Fixed, in addition to the #60 pick. Sorry for the confusion; I got the draft order from NFL.com. Who knew? :(

There's no way I can do this for another round. :dunno:

I'm liking the Pats' Welker for #60 deal more and more :ninja:

so I don't have to die of old age waiting to pick at #60

Smitty stole my initial pick (Nelson) just the pick before me :ninja: but I was back n forth between him and Jarvis Moss to begin with so he's a nice consolation prize IMO. Moss is a bit raw still but has been compared to Javon Kearse and that's saying something. Throw him on an already good defense where he won't be so exposed as a youngster and it would be a solid move.

Jacksonville has a very good defense but remarkably they were only 18th overrall in total sacks. A big part of that was due to losing DE Reggie Hayward to a torn achilles in the first game of the year. Reports suggest he's coming along but I'd be worried if I were the Jags brass. Worst case scenario I think is that Moss starts right from the get go, and best case would be to have Hayward and Moss on both ends during passing downs.

Just got around to looking at this. While I'm OK with the pick here I was also looking at Nelson with our 1st rounder. I think McCray steps into a steady rotation at the end and should be able to help pick up the slack until Hayward is full strength, if ever. DE is definitely a need as I'm not sure about Hawkins being an every down type of player and Spicer getting old.

Somebody (Mack1) should probably make the Bears' pick since it's been approximately 8 hours or so since Clash picked...

Some suggestions for the Bears' pick:

1. DT Justin Harrell, Tennessee

(With Tommy Harris coming back from injury, Tank Johnson's legal problems, and Ian Scott possibly leaving via FA, DT becomes a concern for the Bears' DEF. Harrell has top-notch intangibles and is pretty good against the run and is quick enough to develop into an inside pass-rusher.)

2. DT Quinn Pitcock, Ohio State

(Reasons same as above.)

3. TE Zach Miller, Arizona State

(Desmond Clark is decent; but Miller is more athletic and has the potential to be a good TE for a long time.)

Fellas, I think we should pick up the pace a bit. We should be done by the end of the week, but to ensure that happens we'll give four hours for folks to make their selections. Deal?

during "regular business hours" of course

Yeah, Nelson would have been nice right there. I think Moss will be a very good situational DE for Jax until he matures a bit more physically and perhaps then becomes an every down type of DE.

I saw quite a few mocks suggesting that Tedd Ginn be the pick because they need "downfield speed" but that puzzles me. You've got the burner in Matt Jones (when healthy) and I think you've only scratched the surface with Reggie Williams. I realize they had quite a few drops last year but it's correctable with some maturity IMO so I just don't see the value in adding a potentially fragile framed WR. :(

If Erb doesn't pick tonight, I'll send an email to Mack with my pick to try to keep things moving tomorrow morning.

Sorry bout that, just got back from seeing 300 <_<

I chose Hughes over a couple over guys as right now (specifically DE), but I think he's the best value at this spot, at a glaring position of need for Miami. I like him over McCauley who got picked a little earlier, and especially over any other CB available right now.

Kind of a bad scenario for the Vikes. Best O-line value went quickly at the end of round 1 (and start of round 2). The last of the second tier WRs went a few picks before the Vikes picked. Saftey was a consideration, but the biggest need by far is WR. Gonzalez gives the Vikes a reliable possession receiver, although he doesn't have the big upside of the WRs that went before him.

I think he's good enough though were this would be a nice pick up for the Vikes, but I like Gonzalez more than some of the WRs taken before him anyway.

Ginn should be a great return guy; but I wouldn't be surprised if Gonzalez ends up being a better WR. Personally, I think Gonzo should excel as a #2 WR in the NFL for many years...

Mick - I'm out this week - toughest week of the year for me. If we make it to pick 50 in week two you are on your own. Take the Titans to the next level for me  . I'll be sporadic at best for the next 10 days. Help us on Defense now

Mack1, make the 49ers pick for Scooter...

Some recommendations (if you need it):

1. WR Steve Smith, USC

With Antonio Bryant gone, the 49ers need some more WRs. Smith is one of the best WRs still available.

2. MLB David Harris, Michigan

In Nolan's 3-4 scheme, they're always looking for LBs. Harris is very good against the run.

3. CB/S Eric Weddle, Utah

One of the better values still left in this mock draft. Smart, versatile football player with good intangibles.

what the fock?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I've checked back on this focking thing every day, several times a day since it started. I checked it this morning and I was not on the clock, and the list showed 4 picks before I was.

I go to a focking meeting for an hour and chack back I've missed my pick?!?!?!? That's focking bullsh!t.

Y'all have some focking nerve. I've seen people get 2 focking days to pick in this thing, and I don't even get the courtesy of an hour.

That's some focked up bullshiat right there. Thanks a lot guys.

Steve Smith was going to be my pick and I'm focking pissed off. Change that sh!t NOW.

Maybe you should join a mock draft...I heard that's a good stress reliever.

fine - I posted the Niners pick 2.10 after your 2.11, so do what you like.

I still think it's pretty focking rude that I watched the same damn names sitting there for days at a time over the weekend, yet I get less than 40 mins to make my pick.

what the fock, guys?

As someone who has been done with picks for quite a while, I know that the main page was not updated, but the posts within the thread have been indicating that it was your pick for quite some time. That was earlier this morning, so they did give you quite a while to make the pick.

I think that we have some miscommunication and it is probably a no-harm, no-foul situation. However, I am not sure that the manner in which you are complaining is going to get you what you want.

that makes no sense. Apparently no one bothered to update the pick topic subtitle to "scooter is on the clock" or update the pick list in that time then, as those are the two places I've been checking.

And I checked last night at 11 PM, so it's pretty weak. I specifically checked in so often so as to not be a roadblock in this thing.

Ah well - the pick is Steve Smith.

Either the focking main draft tally wasn't getting updated or I dunno what happened, because I've been checking in, including twice this morning.

yostevo posts that my time is up and y'all just move on? My name never appears in the topic subtitle as "Scooter's on the clock"?

That's focking bullsh!t. :thumbsdownX10000:

Vikings4ever picked WR Anthony Gonzalez at 9:40 p.m. on March 26th.

Mack1 made a commish pick of DE Tim Crowder for Footballscooter at 1:17 p.m. on March 27th.

I understand your frustration that Mack1 hasn't been updating the "on-the-clock" memo often enough, but all you had to do was take a second to scroll down to the bottom of the Draft Thread and see if the pick before you had been made. I'm not defending Mack, but IMO you certainly had enough time to make your pick (technically, more than 15 hours...if we're going by work schedule, you probably had more than 4 hours to make your pick).

All that said, I have no problem giving you Steve Smith instead of Crowder (as I think Smith makes more sense for the 49ers' pick anyway).

Remember this is a mock draft. It's not real. Everyone calm the fock down and have fun...

I agree 100% about the Ginn pick! I pray they don't take him here. With a veteran in Northcutt being signed and the rest of the guys being 1 more year matured, new WRs coaches, I suspect they should definitely get their act together and don't really see the need to reach for a WR with the 17th pick. I'd be happy with a S, DE and even a LB at this pick, we'll see what happens shortly.

The protocol has been that the person who is on the clock is notified through the mechanism of sub-title on pick topic.

I am going out of my way to check back several times a day, and even opened the topic to check for updates and saw none.

I agree - it's no harm no foul, and if I was on the clock that long I apologize for delaying it - but I did go out of my way to check in, and my reaction is totally appropriate considering I was not afforded the same courtesy of the sub-title notification.

That said, it's not that big a deal and I've made my pick. No one else picked Smith between me & Kutulu so no problem. I just think if someone's going to organize a draft like this then the same notification needs to be used for everyone or sh!t like this will happen.

Remember this is a mock draft. It's not real. Everyone calm the fock down and have fun...

I know, and honestly some of that b!tching was for fun and to rile up kutulu.

In the moment it seemed like my clock expired awfully quickly, which is why I reacted as such. Knowing what I know now, i'm all cool with it.

In order to avoid the situation that just happened with Scoot, I would suggest all owners to not only check to see if you are on the clock, but to check the thread, check you made the last pick and check the draft order. That little extra effort isn't going to hurt you.

There have been like 5 or 6 picks, including the one with Scooter, that have taken at least 15-plus hours to make. That's ridiculous.

I dont know man, that'd be an unauthorized, invalid pick if we did that...

especially considering I checked in at 11:00 last night and again 3 times this morning between 08:00 and 11:00 AM CA time.

Like I said - protocol was that "XXX is on the clock" was posted in the subtitle and the running draft order was current.

I've been following this thing closely, but not so closely as to memorize who was picking for what team, or to religiously look at the last pick of the topic. I thought since there was a process in place that by following it I wouldn't hold up the draft.

I assure you that had I known the picks/subtitle weren't being updated any more, I would have checked the end of the draft topic.
