Its just different. We get grouped together as minorities. Black people were opressed back in the day and most of those organizations started out back in the day. If any group is being oppressed, the smart thing would be to organize yourself to have a stronger voice. I think some of these groups are out of control now, but when they started, they were a necessity. You guys always forget, racism was legal as little as 50 years ago. There are still black people alive today that weren't allowed into certain restaurants.

 

Eventually, "black only" scholorships and stuff will disappear. But there are too many people who grew up oppressed and had to fight like hell to get somewhere, who want to help the current kids and give them opportunities they never had. I think by the time the current generation of under 30 year olds get older, these kinds of things will disappear. I'd say younger black people take advantage of the system and stuff, but the heads of these organization saw and felt real oppression. Some of them marched with Dr. King.

 

Just like any organization though, power goes to their heads. It happened to unions. Unions were a great thing when they first started out and now they hold companies hostage.

the united negro college fund is not for black people it's for people who go to black colleges. white people can and do go to black colleges and whites can and do receive funding from the uncf. these colleges were created at a time when colleges and universities were segregated. segregation in colleges existed up until the late 60's; university of georgia for example.

there are still schools that are hostile to blacks especially in places like mississippi.
